You can use an aftermarket ballast. My right side ballast died on me so i bought an aftermarket HID kit that comes with 2 ballasts.... But you will need male and female end clips to connect to the harness since its not plug and play

But if u want the same glow...you just need a different bulbs with a higher output...higher K..higher brightness....stock for a G35 is 4300k....i have 5000k now

WOW...you need to do some more research. Higher K doesn't equal higher brightness. The brighest light output color is 4300K which is the color of daylight. 5000K is probably the best between color and output since its the closest to 4300k.

But to clear things up, higher K = more ricey = lower output/ lower brightness

You should try to stay under 6000k. 8000k is bit overdoing it (too blue imo and loss of visibility at night)

4300k is the brightest you can get and has the best visibility. I had 6000k on my old scion tc cause it was still bright and had a light bluish tint. My buddy had 8000k on his and it was just blue. Visibility at night sucked. Id also suggest to stay in between 4300k and 6000k. Maybe just 4300k since you have reflectors and visibility kinda sucks with us reflector people. I cant wait to get some projectors but they all go so quick on the forums. Once you get projectors that will help with visibility and 6000k would look better IMHO

+1 i changed mine to 6000k and i was actually surprised at the difference in visibility. Cant wait to buy myself a set of 06 projectors

Basically you had basic halogen light on your WRX then you switched to a xenon with the HID kit. My technical knowledge on this is kinda meh but here goes..

Halogen lights are what we know as 'dimmer lights'.. All halogen lights are a glass light with gas in it and a filament to ignite the chemicals. This is the basics of a bulb construction. Just think of Xenon (or HIDs) as the highest end of Halogen lighting (due to its gas and because of this is more expensive).

Why you have had to install a ballast.. The ballast houses the ignitor and capacitor.. The ignitor is responsible for sending VERY VERY high power current through the light to ignite the bulb (this can kill you) - just think of it like turning on your stove. The capacitors job is to provide a steady current and not burn the bulb out. Ballasts have a wattage rating and so do the bulbs..

Our G35s all come with xenon type bulbs for the low beam.. Our OEM ballast is steadily good up to 8000k without problems. Tho there are people running 10k.. Signs of a ballast going out or not compatible with your bulb is flickering, does not turn on (cant ignite), or constantly burning out that type of bulb.

So to answer your question. NO you will not need to buy a HID kit for our G35s =) We're already xenon type =) just replace the bulb to the desired color. We, AutoDesign, sell all ranges of bulbs from 3000k yellow to 10,000k pure blue with warranty! PLEASE PM US. We'd love to have your business.

Our other bulbs are all halogen. A common modification is to convert our 'fog lights', the lower hole, into xenon lights. This can be done with a HID kit -just like what you did with your WRX. We also sell this as well. How you would buy HID kits is based off your bulb size. Since HID kits are usually modifying a halogen light bulb to a xenon type its bought based off of bulb socket size. In our case 03-05 headlights uses H4 bulbs and 06-07 uses H1 bulbs.

If you are to get a traditional HID kit for the 03-05 you will loose your HIGH BEAM function since xenon bulbs are NOT dual functions and only have one level of brightness. BUT there are kits are dual function (just think one socket with two types of bulbs) this will allow you to keep your high beams while still using a xenon bulb (HID).

Projectors are xenon powered light with a reflector shot through a projector lens. There is a shutter that creates a cut off.. Think movie projector but a piece of paper is covering the top half of the projector.. That is the cut off.. When the paper is out of the way you get the full effect of the projector.. This is called bixenon and the shutter is powered by a solenoid.

YAY, thank you for reading =)

Halogen bulbs are totally different from HID bulbs. Halogen uses a filament burning (along with small amounts of inert gas) to produce the light. There is lots of waste heat and its not very efficient. HID uses an igniter to start and arc across 2 electrodes. This arc of light burnes the gas and salts inside the bulb. The HID light is brighter since more of the power is used for light instead of heat. Thats why HID's need the ballasts, to start the high voltage arc and current needed to keep the bulb burning.

Although im not an expert, usually the ballast supplies a much greater voltage and not current.

The amount of K doesn't have anything to do with the amount of power the bulb consumes. Its just the mixture of gasses and salts that determine the K of the bulb. For example, a 3000K (yellow color) bulb has a much different mixture than a 10000K (dark blue) bulb. So you can run any color bulb you want although anything higher than 5-6K is detrimental to light output.

This is true...stick with 4300K or as close as you can get as thats the best output bulb since its closer to the natural light of the sun.

Halogen bulbs and HID bulbs are totally different and can't be modified. They are made and operated very differently

I just fixed a couple things I thought weren't right to help people reading this in the future. Im no where near an expert but I've been reading about HID's for a little while
