Does a clear bra prevent paint chips?
So I have a Nismo replica bumper made of poly. It's super flexible, and this makes it extremely hard to paint. My paint chips and cracks infinitely. I was wondering if I get my bumper repainted and then have a 3M bra put on it, will that prevent or minimize stress cracks and paint chips?
The clear bra is made to prevent paint chips from road debris. If the paint is cracking and chipping on it's own, the problem is with the paint job itself. The shop that did the work did not add any or enough flex agent.
My car is pretty slammed so my bumper does take a good amount of abuse. I know it's the paint job isn't perfect, but I feel as thought paint damage is inevitable. I was just wondering if the clear bra would sort of reinforce the paint
I know it wouldn't really help with stress cracks, but it would help mediate paint chips right.. since they can't just chip off.. haha that's just what I imagine. Sorry if I'm being ignorant lol

I have a clear bra on my 37 coupe and had one on my 35 coupe. It prevents the bumper from being freckled with small white marks in the paint. Mine looks new after 3 years and would put it on any new car I buy. You will probably have to shop around for a custom installer since they do not have pre-cut shields for your bumper. Since you are having your bumper redone beforehand, I would make sure that the shop takes most of the old paint off down past the stress cracks and be positive they add a flex agent into the clear.
Ya, it will have to be custom and many times those can be pretty poorly done. You gotta make sure you find someone capable of making a nice custom one for you or else it will just end up looking like garbage...
The previous owner of my G had put a clear bra on the OEM hood and bumper. At some point before I got it, they were taken off. The paint underneath is in pretty good shape, so it did its job protecting the car. The bad part is now I have a line from where the bra stopped about 2' up my hood that goes across the hood. I'm hoping once I claybar, polish and wax it will help hide the areas better. The front bumper looks pretty good. It had been repainted at some point though so I'm not sure how long the bra was on there. The residue left behind was a pain to get off though. I'm still trying to get some of it off. I'll be repainting the hood and bumper next spring.
