Yeah cops(and firemen) here(midwest) make OK money if they work for the right city 60+ after a couple of years w/o OT and we have a really low COL, New Orleans has a horrible pay scale for public service employees. As I am a public servent. An just remember how much that cop pissed you off when you get jacked by a crackhead and you want him to be there!

WTF??? That has to be wrong. I live in one of the richest cities in the U.S. & our cops have all the lastest and greatest toys, but make about 45k maybe 50k w/ ot???

With Comp. time after 19years of service you might see around 60k(which is a lot for a cop)

Where is that???

Well, I always hear Nassau county is the richest county in the US. If anyone is from Long Island here ... please back me up with this. I will try and find some hard facts online and post them for you.

The north shore areas by me is big time money, and the south as well. I live in Garden City Long Island .... Just do a search for realestate in areas like Garden City, Sands Point, Old Westbury, Upper Brookville, Hamptons, and so on ... I know Nassau is the richest County in the US ... I would bet the bank I remember hearing that someplace.

But I do know for a fact what the cops here on Long Island make.... I have a lot of friends on the job. After the academy these guys are making 50,000 to 60,000 a year .. and after 5 years its like 82,000 to 89,000 without OT. My good friend made 156,000 in 2004 with OT ... Trust me guys this info is correct.

One other thing ... Suffolk county Long Island cops make more money but Nassau has more wealth. They are THE highest paid cops in the US ... A-side from private police forces ...Like Garden City Cops for ex. Nassau cops are about 4,000 behind them.

Ok here is some info I found .. this is about the contract they got in late 2003. Don't mistake NYPD/city cops with Nassau .. NYPD don't get paid sh/i/t ...They should get a lot more but they don't ...

Cops in Nassau Get 21% Raise In 6-Year Deal
Arbitrators require Givebacks But Not Health Payments
By Richard Steier

Police Officers in Nassau County will receive pay raises of just over 21 percent under a six-year contract award issued by an arbitration panel Sept. 14, bringing maximum salary to $92,400 as of July 1, 2006.
Read more here:
http://www.nycpba.org/archive/ch/03/...%2Dnassau.html

From the same site .. different page.
"the new rate for those beginning training in the Police Academy goes from $23,000 to $34,000, and at the end of a full year of service they will have their pay jump to over $65,000."

65,000 for first year alone ... witout OT .. and these guys make mega OT.
And a recruit does his 5 years and his pay is like I said above. Even the correction houses make more in OT then salary. I have a CO friend in Nassau County Jail who has 5 years in and made 144,000 in 2003

That is definitely believable, since you require a degree in law to be a cop in Suffolk County. I wouldn't know about Nassau, but I'm assuming they would need one too..

I can tell you that Ive had More Run ins with Private Nassau County Cops. I.e. Old Westbury Village Police. This village police are out there to f**k you royally. Espically the North shore of Nassau county, which a very wealthy and conservitave communities who dont like to tax the rich people who live there so the cops need to make money their own way. What do State Troopers make.
