So I noticed the black trim around my quarter and front windows were looking really faded and deteriorated (probs from sitting in the sun for most of its life), and almost moldy in some spots, I had already plasti-dipped my mirror surrounds and front cowl and windshield wiper arms and liked the results so I decided I'd do the same for the trim.

It took a little more effort this time around because I couldn't remove the pieces to paint so I had to mask. Fortunately, the trim all has grooves where it meets the window or body so that make it easy run an exacto blade over the painters tape to get really tight edges.





The conditions were shitty for painting, but I went ahead and did it anyway because I was going to need the car real soon and didn't want to be driving around with masking all over my windows or remask everything again, but I think it turned out great anyway.





Here are the results. No more gross faded trim! Yeah baby!







Just thought I'd share in case any of you have the same problem. Let me know what ya think.

*Next I'm gunna spray that damn roof drip molding (looking really faded), really wish i could just remove them and paint em so I don't have to mask again but I hear its more complicated than it looks to remount them so I'm hoping I can get away with just running note cards under the flaps to mask it off.

 

I had the same problem a couple months ago and plastidipped mine. It's still looking and holding up well next I'm gonna do the roof!

Very nice. I'm going to have to do this as well. I've noticed 'age' spots along the rear window trims, and the rubber surrounding the sunroof could use a touch-up too.

Thanks for the feedback guys, cool I'm not the only one out there thinking of this. I forgot to mention, to anyone planning on doing this in the future, depending on how many coats or how thick you spray you might wanna go over the edges with an exacto knife so you don't accidentally peel up any plasti-dip when u remove the masking.

Thanks. Also, note this stuff takes about a week to fully cure and you might notice it has a lumpy texture (for lack of better terms) when you first apply it, but over time it cures and becomes a smoother finish.

 

Did my roof rails, sunroof moulding, and windshield moulding yesterday.

Does anyone know where I can buy the trim in black and just install a new one

 

Dealer has the back window upper one, but not sure about the trim around the windows or along the upper door edge.
