DIY - 05-07 AT Shifter Trim in an 03-04 Shifter Console

Hey guys,
I've been working on this for a while after seeing Vincent Vega's mod. I'm assuming I'm the second person to do this and now you guys will be able to as well! This is not an easy mod and you should have some bondo experience to do this.

I couldn't find a paint to match my interior color so I ended up wrapping everything in carbon fiber vinyl.

Here's the finished product-

Things you need for this DIY:

-05-07 Shifter Trim - $30-50 depending where you get it
-Fiberglass Bondo - $15 for a can at Home Depot
-Cream hardener - $5
-Sand Paper (assorted grit) - $10
-Epoxy
-Bondo Tools (to smooth out the bondo and apply it)

-Paint (If you can match it well)
-Carbon Fiber Wrap (If you want to wrap it like I did)

1.) First thing you want to do is line it up where you want it, and draw an outline of the trim.

2.) Next, drill a hole where the shifter trim protrudes into the console (you can see it in the picture)

Test Fit:

3.) I didn't take any pictures of this because it's hard to use a phone while bondo'ing. Basically, what you want to do is take a piece of plastic (half circle) so the bondo has somewhere to sit on (to fill in the gaps on the sides of the trim) and then epoxy the plastic to the bottom of the console. Then bondo the top of the plastic and sand it down with heavy grit and then fine grit so it's smooth.

My bondo is crude because it's the first time I ever bondo'd anything but it shouldn't be too hard.

4.) I pretty much tinkered with the bondo (Sand/reapply some bondo) till I got the right amount and the shifter sat nicely.

5.) I don't have pictures but if you are painting, make sure to primer it properly with a few coats. Since I wrapped mine I didn't primer it, I just sanded everything smooth and cleaned it.

6.) Pictures of the wrapping process-

Hope that helps anyone looking to do this mod without switching to the entire 05-07 dash. I'll be on this thread so if anyone has any questions just ask.

good job on the wrap

you know the stock circular cut out, you didn't change that all, did you? Off the top of my head I don't recall mine being an irregular cut out shape

Yup you can still slide it to to the right to shift. And the irregular shape is on all the consoles, it keeps the circular bezel from moving around and so its easy to take out.
