g35 Coupe rear bumper Problem!

Hey Everyone

I got rear-ended recently, and the body shop replaced my rear bumper. However, it seems as though the paint on my rear bumper does not match the rest of the car.

I have a '03 G35 Coupe in Pearl White.

The paint on the bumper is slightly darker and less bright/shiny than the rear quarterpanels and my mudguards. It's pretty noticeable.

My body shop tells me that this is normal, that it's no problem really, as if I'm blind.

Any advice? I guess I need to be sure that they did something wrong before I push them to repaint my bumper.

Is it possible that they could've used the wrong paint, such as an ivory white, or something other than the pearl white?

I understand that applying the pearl white paint is a 2 step process, the base coat and top coat. Could they have missed a layer? Would this result in the paint discrepancy on my car?

I would greatly appreciate your comments, suggestions, and any advice.

Thanks a lot for help.

since its a light color car its really hard of the shop to match the paint. But any good shop should be able to match it good if not they will sand down your body pannels and blemish them like mixing the color to get a 98%+ match well thats what my body shop does.

Was this insurance? If so contact them. Its VERY hard to hit a color on the head! Ive for a perfect job the quarter should be blended so it will match. That color isnt three stage. Its a base coat clear coat, pearl is mixed in with the base.

So the body shop messed up, or am I just too picky?

I've had my bumper replaced before like 8 months ago, and at that time, the paint job was perfectly fine.

And this repair did go through insurance. I've dealt with this body shop too, and they normally fix anything they messed up on.

Thanks for your input.

Well it just depends. Bodyshops hate to hear this. MOST people are not like us G35 guys. I wouldnt say they messed up but if it didnt hit then it didnt hit. Oh yeah dont let them tell you it will fade and match cause it wont! What you see is what you get!

If the paint doesn't match, and the body shop tries to provide excuses, how should I go about pushing them to repaint, or fix the paint job? I know they are required by law to restore the condition of the car to its original state, but this is not as easy as it sounds. Anyone got any experience in dealing with this?

Thanks.

Just tell them your not happy with the match and go from there. Tell them to shoot a test panel first and you wont have the problem you have.

If what you're saying is true, then please explain how my front bumper, which is plastic, and my mudguards, which are also plastic, match the rest of my car, and my rear bumper does not?

These are all the same material I'm assuming, and therefore my rear bumper should be able to match the rest of my car. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks.

So you replaced your bumper again then? You didn't get it repainted?

I'm planning on asking the body shop to just repaint my bumper.
