I'd just use a level and ruler to find the centered location for the rebadging.
People seem to over think the debadging job... just warm them with a hair dryer if you want to make the glue soften up, then gently pry the letters off, or use dental floss to get under them. Goo gone would work fine, if you can't just get the glue off with your fingers.
Wax with whatever normal wax you use, nothing special needed for that area - it's just like the rest of the car...

I just let mine sit in the sun for about 15 minutes and the letters came right off. It's kinda scary if you think about how easy it is to rip those things off when they get warm. But anyway, they didn't leave residue or anything, and all I did afterwards was wax the area where they were and it looked fine.

to remove old badges...
1) use a hair dryer to heat up the old badge
2) use dental floss to saw between the badge and metal to separate the old badge
(minty fresh floss is recommended for a more pleasant debadging experience)
3) once removed, you can use WD40 or Goo-Gone to remove the residual two sided tape schmeg.
4) you must then use something to clean the WD40 or goo-gone off. I used some windex and then soapy warm water.
never scrape or pry badges with a sharp instrument.
cheers, ted

but ya, i just used 'rubbing alcohol' to wipe the area and it was nice and smooth
i 2 am working abuot how to place the SKYLINE on properly (i'm just putting the SKYLINE on and want them to probably be around the centre of the trunk...)

Well, the simple way would be to tape a ruler or yardstick to the area and set the letters on that. I'd start with the center letter and work out...
Another way would be to make a template in Photoshop and cut the letters out... align the template and place the letters through the openings.
