FYI - it's also fantastic for hitch mounted bike racks - keeps the nasties off your paint. I'm likely going to get one of these myself when I get up to Washington state. Yakima and Thule make great roof racks, but they always dork up the paint if you leave them on for any length of time - these are great for the quick on-and-off bike hauling.

I am in this same dilema, I have a couple jet skis, but i CANNOT bring my self to put a hitch on the G. If i was into Mt. Biking I would consider it if it was for that reason. I just cannot tow the skis with the G. Looking to sell mine and get FX. Probably at the end of the summer.

I can see this for some of the things you mention - a small trailer carrying track-day wheels, maybe pulling your Harley, something.

I WOULD NOT try to put jet skis in the water with a G. Wet incline + weight on the bumper + deep water behind you = disaster.. I've seen pick-ups spin their wheels going backwards as their ski trailer pulled them into the lake - I can't imagine doing it in a G. Some of those boat ramps are steep, they're ALL slippery and you usually have to dunk your rear tires to get the ski/boat deep enough to float off.

I'd hate to see a G try to do it - bad things could happen...

Roof Rack

I've had a Yakima Roof Rack for about 5 years now. Bought three feet of this stuff http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.j...tective+shield to apply to the paint under the roof mount towers and have no paint damage at all. I don't know how it will work with the new paint formula being used though.

See this post for a hitch. I ran across this yesterday. G35ZX is a member and the thread shows up when you search for "hitch"

LoL. A hitch on a G35 coupe. Now I'll have seen everything. I bought my lady a cayenne for these purposes. I'll drive it when I need to tow my trailer or attach my Trek. Please don't put a hitch on this beautiful coupe.

Hitch

How does this hitch attach to the coupe? The hitches I've heard about all attach to both the bumper frame AND the body under the spare wheel well. This creates a problem if you are rear ended. Even a slight hit to the rear bumper would damage the body under the car. Is the Curt hitch attached this way?

That's one opinion I guess.

Compared to some of the mods I've seen here, a small 1" hitch painted to match the underbody of the G would be far less damaging to the lines of the car.

But okay.

If 95% of your lifestyle fits the G, then it is practical. If you take up a hobby that you hadn't considered at the time of your purchase (like cycling for example), should you sell the car and buy something else, or go with what you have? What if you want to take a kayak to the lake? Trade the car on a FX and lose $, or pull a trailer?

I say go with what you have. It would be stupid to trade a vehicle for something 'more practical' when what you have can do the job just fine. Depends on frequency of use and how it's executed IMO.

If it were a choice between a trailer hitch or some of the ghetto chromies guys here are running on this car, I'd take the hitch.
