2005 gauges + a/c temp display exposed
ok so i have a 2004 but I happen to have a 2005 to take apart and see what's inside. Let me tell you the 2005 is far more superior in quality compared to the 2003- 2004. I am so jealous. the 2005 uses ALL LEDS for EVERYTHING... gauges, a/c temp display, EVERYTHING!!!. no regular bulbs for anything. The materials and plastics used in the interior is more soft and supple. so jealous. It would have made my life 10 times easier when changing my interior lights to blue...but anyways here are some pictures
PICTURES ARE OUT OF ORDER BECAUSE I HAD TO RE_UPLOAD THE PICTURES.
picture 1- the clock. looks much more luxurious than the previous clock. it is lit up by LEDS
picture 2- the back of the clock. i have no idea how to access the LEDs though. I didn't have enough time.
picture 3- the a/c temp display- behind those LCD screens have LEDS behind them.. I saw 3 LEDS for the compass. I'm not sure how many there are for the others.
picture 4- the plug. so nope you can't stick the 2005 display in your 2004
picture 5- when you take out the gauges, the location of all the bolts and screws are basically the same.. so if you want to take yours out, go to the DIY forum
picture 6- the back of the gauges. LOOK MA no BULBS TO PULL OUT!! whahhhh.. also the plugs are different so NO you cannot put the 2005 in your 2003-2004
picture 7- another shot of the back of the gauges
picture-8- empty dash
picture 9- guages
picture 10- cover taken off
picture 11- another picture of the cover off
picture 12- the inside. the only way you can gain access to the LEDs is that you need to take out the needles which are pretty sensitive. If you pull out the rods your gauges won't work properly anymore (speaking from experience from my 2004) but if you do take it out, you have to pry off the cap on top of the needles then use a long needle to hold down the rod in the middle while you pull up the needle itself.
ok that's all folks.

I did use film for my 2004 upper display. the quality of the 2005 looks so much nicer since the front cover is clear.

Stunning work you did on you gauges. I am defintely going to do this on my 05. The pix are a big help as well are the notes in pcture 12 in the first post.
You mentioned in another thread that the 05 cluster has LEDs already... Do you think it would be best to leave the current LEDs and use a film or just remove em and go with a native blue LED.
Thanks for posting what you have found during the exploration on the 05s and on the work you have done on your 04.
