To those with Greddy bumpers
Was wondering If anyone would be interested in Skid plates. Everyone knows how low this bumper sits.
I'm having my bumper put on soon, and also making a skid plate for the underside of the bumper. I will most likely be making it out of aluminum. I just need to find somewhere to buy the metal at a decent price now.
I was wondering how many of you may be interested. If there is enough people I may make a couple.
I'm thinking of making it out of one piece, or maybe three individual pieces. They will be put on by Pop rivets. Any bodyshop can install it within 20 minutes, or you can do it in your driveway if you have a rivet gun.
I don't have any pictures yet, but hopefully I will soon. I've already made a template for the bumper, and now just need material. If there is a high enough demand, I'll try to make a couple.
LMK!!

The splitter sticks away from the bumper. A skid plate would hug the bumper, forming to it and not comming up that high as for too many people to notice. I've already made one for mine. They can also do a clear one, sorta like a thick clear bra but its really hard plastic.
i'll have pics up soon, going to pick up the bumper this weekend and going to go get some steel sheets or aluminum... aluminum is a little too expensive tho, sheet metal would rust...

OK here's the good and here's the bad about having such a "skid plate" on a Greddy bumper. Being a Greddy bumper owner driver, YES it sits low and if you've lowered you car (mines lowered 1.75") its freakin super low!
The good: If you place a skid plate, you will keep the bottom of the bumper scratch free and possibly save it it from minor cracks and dings..
The bad; Fiberglass in itself NEEDS to flex a bit. Its rigid to a point and when forced, I would rather have it crack or chip underneath the bumper (where its less visable and or a repair less unnoticeable) than have the skid plate aborb the crack further into the bumper, IE; up where the headlights / fenders meet (which are common stress point on this bumper, and believe me I know!).
It may sound like a good idea, but when actually put to the test, I don't think "skid plates" are that good of an idea.
Just something to think about...

If you nail the bumper that hard in the 1st place you probably shouldn't have it to begin with! Skid plate is only there to help keep the bumper underneath nice and neat. I'm making mine where it can be taken off at shows but kept on durring every day driving just in case...I'm already careful though - no scratches! *knocks on the desk*
i'm not putting it there so I can do 100 MPH over speed bumps. I'm putting it there to avoid scrapes. I don't know if anyone knows, but I got my bumper from the UTR car... Mike's car is only lowered on H-techs and the bottom is scraped up pretty bad. So bad to the point where there is a hole going through the bottom of the lip.
As for flexing, thats why I plan on using seperate pieces. I may or may not use 1 big sheet, but by the looks of it... I will be using 3 seperate sheets.

I made two splitters out of carbonfiber. Before I installed the bumper,I placed it on the carbonfiber sheat. Traced the bumper from the wheel well to the part where the bumper stops before the large opening. When finshed the splitters sticks out about 3/4 inch all the way around giving more protection. Looks pretty cool too.
i'm interested in this... how did you cut it? finish it? etc...? did you just bolt it to your bumper or did you fasten it behind the bumper, allowing the seperation to give for reasons stated above?
