SMOKING HEADLIGHTS--the one that involves headlight removal

I am curious how difficult of a DIY this is... I know many people have done it--if you guys could chime in and weigh the difficulty level it would be great.

Another option I have is to outsource it to somebody who has had experience--I know GDRAGON does this, and his work looks awesome, however it's a hassel TO ME to do the shipping back and forth...

Anybody know any shops or any specialty people who do this in SO CAL?

Any input would be great =)

(BTW what paint is used?)

Well, after spending hours on end with Diesel fixing my headlight... (long story, don't wanna talk about it)... I can understand why someone like GDragon would not want to do it anymore for $120.

In concept, it's easy... it's definitely not a beginner's DIY like the Z-tube. This project requires you to remove your front bumper completely, then remove the headlight that's held in by a couple of bolts.

After removing the headlight, we went around with a heatgun to soften the silicon sealant (black rubbery sticky material), then went around with a screwdriver to remove the plastic headlamp which includes the area where you could remove to smoke, color, or do whatever you want of the headlamp (head in by 3 little screws) and have access to the amber turn signal....

Here is the key point that I encountered which slowed us down... A LOT!!! If you want to do it right (have a nice sealed enclosure to keep moisture out to prevent fogging or any water developing inside the headlight), I would recommend removing COMPLETELY that black gooey silicon sealant, and re-seal it completely with fresh Silicon sealer (or the OEM sealer you can get from the dealer)

You have to act quick since the Silicon sealer is made to dry relatively fast. Replace it back on the housing, clamp, and let dry... and reseal with silicon sealer again to ensure proper seal and avoid moisture buildup.

All in all, it sounds pretty simple, in concept.... it does take some time. If you're familiar with removing the bumper... then it should be too bad to access the headlight.

I'll try and get a hold of some pictures to show what you have to do from my project yesterday....
