how long does it take bodyshop to bake/cure paint?

was curious as to how long this process takes, i heard they paint the car, and they bake the paint? does this take a few hours or a day?

does a bodyshop usually wash the car after they put on a kit? was wondering if i should let them do it... cause if they wash it and anything gets loose, chips, they are responsible to fix it. So i kinda want them to wash it, but then again im afraid since its a black car... what do you guys suggest?

you could wash it b4 you drop it off... but if you know your way around the bodyshop....the car is going to get dirty from all the particles flying around.... But in any case if you go to a good shop; they will detail the whole car after your kit is installed... btw what kit are you dropping and what shop are you using for the install?

Depends alot on the paint they use, how much of the car they paint... if there is body work... etc. Its not one shot tho, its prep work, then prime, bake(not always), sand, wash, paint, bake, sand, wash... so on.. I'd say baking usually doesn't take in excess of 30 mins, sometimes as little as 15 mins. As a courtesy you should wash it for them, they'll definately wash it again anyways if its a good shop, but its just a good gesture and makes them more inclined to do a better job. Its kinda like washing your wheels before you go to get new tires mounted or something.

Oh and I'd say a whole car could take them in as little as 2 days to more than 2 weeks, just a whole lot of factors... gotta give more details man

hrmm, thought they only had to sand and paint once, didnt know it was that repetitive of them to do that. Well it's not an entire car, just a body kit, fiberglass that is... last thing they told me is that they need to reprimer it, not sure why they need to do that again... but im thinking that they're finish prepping it? isn't prepping = sanding, making the surface smooth so that its ready to be primered, painted, etc?

They'll back it for some period of time, but you shouldn't wax for 30 days. You can polish, but no wax until it's fully "cured". Just ask them and they'll tell u how long to wait for waxing.

typically, even if they bake it, you shouldn't wax it for 30 days... 15 minimum. Just better for the durability of the top coat... sanding in between coats is very minimal, sometimes they just take a buffing pad and just run it over the car once... sometimes they don't even buff, just depends on how well the prep work was and how well the paint went on. I think a body kit could take about 10-15 hrs total work... might be less, probably not more. And prep work = body filler, sanding, etc, just everything before painting.
