8000K Bulbs, Anyone have em?

Anyone on the forums have 8000K on their G? If so, any pictures? I wanna know if it is TOO blue, because i like that blue look on bmw projectors but im not sure what #K bulbs they use.

Chilibowl,

I currently have 8000K's on my G, and they do have the blue hue you are looking for... I think. I am looking at having a projector retro done soon.

I def like the bluer hue to, but you loose a little visibility though... I think it's a fair exchange for the look JMHO

8000k is really nice, but I think it can be a tad too blue. I dont want to get hassled by the cops... and 6000k stands out from normal HIDs, but doesnt stray too far.

Does that picture portray the right colors to their actual numbers, because i think 8000K looks really good.

looks about right... but it seems like the 8000k was photo editted to be more apealing. They made it seem brighter than all the rest. Also, the 6000k should be slightly bluer than in the picture

Go to the link above. I have plenty of pictures of my 6000k setup.

6000-7000 will give you a nice bright light with a blue tint. Anything above 7000, will make your lights look cartoonish -- too blue and/or purple.

I would definately say that is the true look. I have had my 8000k HID's on my G for nearly 18 months now without any hassle at all and I reside in California where mosts cops are Pr*@$.

Yeah, I agree. They look awsome, but have you seen them on the street? IMO, its completely ridiculous! I've seen 12000k and the light that shines on the street reminds me of a black light! Theres WAY more light output from a stock halogen bulb! I think the true 12000k is even more purple than in that picture

The 10000k looks really cool too (looking directly at the light). I once saw an accord that had dual HIDs running 10000k that was driving behind me. At first, I thought it was really mean looking! Then when he pulled up next to me, I looked at his light spread on t the floor... and much like the 12000k bulb, the light shine was more of a soft "glow" then a bright light.

Did you knock on wood?

pics of my 8000k

Here is just the left installed.. it makes the stock HID look like a halogen light off an 89 ford pickup.

Here a pic of the stock light from above the light..

And now the 8000k..

BTW bmw's dont have same lights we do so they dont have a "k" number and the SLK (new one) seems to have those purple lights... at least the one I saw did, however, I doubt that they are the 1200k cuz who in his right mind would downgrade to that visibility? (Other than ricers).

To my knowlegde, all OEM HIDs use a 4100k HID bulb. The only other car that has any other temp is maybe the S2000. I heard that they use a 4700k HID bulb.

The reason the color seems so different from car to car is the type of housing they have. There are different types of projectors, that have different light pattern and different cut-offs. The color we all see is in the cut-off. If all the colors of the rainbow are shined into one small spot and overlapped, it would creat a pure white light. In the cut-off of the HID lights, the lights are seperated back into a rainbow. Out of all the colors in the rainbow, blue and violet (purple) have the strongest wave lenth, causing them to have the largest section of the cut-off. So when the light shines out of the projectors, the pure white light hits the floor, and the cut-off is high enough that our eyes catch the blue and violet from seperation in the cut-off. What we see is not the actual light shine, but the effect of the lights sperating at the cut of, due to the projector lens.

Heres a fun thing to do. Find a car with a nice projector HID setup. Stand about 30 feet away from it so the cut-off is about at your waist. Slowly bend down into the cut-off and you can see the color change from violet > blue > green > yellow > orange > red > then to the HID white. Green, yellow, orange and red have a very weak wave length and will have only a tiny section in the color change... barely visible with the naked eye.
