did anyone catch this in the owner's manual? (LONG)...

hello everyone,
just want to know if anyone has notice this: on page 2-20 of my 05 owner's manual, it states,

"THE LIFE OF XENON HEADLIGHTS WILL BE SHORTENED BY FREQUENT ON-OFF OPERATION. IT IS GENERALLY DESIRABLE NOT TO TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS FOR SHORT INTERVALS (FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPS AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL)...THIS WAY THE LIFE OF THE XENON HEADLIGHTS IS NOT REDUCED"

i know this fact from my previous vehicle, what i didn't know was the the healights turns on and off when you press the panic button (or when the alarm goes off). doesn't this contradict with what it states in the manual? also, when i go through dark tunnels during the day (or inside a parking garage), the headlights turns on when set to "auto." and goes off when the car hit daylight, doesn't this add to the contradiction? (although i don't use the auto setting at all).
just thought i bring it to attention since i couldn't find anything on this forum about the subject.

ben

Hmm...
I'd assume that the panic button uses the hi/fogs - not the the HIDs. Never tried it though...

thats right, turning on and off... or flashing HIDs is not good. I noticed how it turns on and off when I drive through short tunnels too, and also through parking garages, so thats why I dont put it on auto. C'mon, how lazy are we that we cant take the "extra" effort to turn on our lights when its dark

yeah, but I bet they will still last 5-6 years without them burning out if you were to leave the switch in Auto mode.

I leave mine on auto - yes I am lazy - and go through parking decks for work almost daily. The lights come on but they stay on for the "appointed" delay time before they go off so _in my case_ they are on the whole time I am in the deck and then go off after I park. I don't think it is as bad on them as it sounds but that's JMHO.

I bought the extended Bumper to Bumper warranty. So its the dealers problem when they die out.

They tell you this;
Yet they design the switch with auto as the 1st position next to off

like others, sometimes i like to drive with only the parking light on, but not in this case, no matter how fast i twist the ****, the headlight always comes on, i think it's really a dumb design.

It would have been much better to have OFF in between Auto and Manual;
Then you could go either way w/o flicking the HIDs on.

Hmm, are you sure the EPP covers burned out bulbs?

On my last car I had the auto 'on' all the time and it did go on and off for short periods (parking garage, tunnels, etc.) and not one of them burned out. I actually still have that car with xenons for 4.5 years now.

Question is... are the stock xenons covered under the 4 year warranty??

That was an example the salesman used. But I guess he could have been full of sh**. Guess its time to start reading the fine print.

From the '05 warranty book.
MAINTENANCE SERVICE EXPENSE This warranty does not cover normal maintenance services as specified in your Owner’s Manual such as wheel alignment, headlight aiming, replacement of filters, lubricants, coolant, worn clutch discsand brake pads.
Of course it does not say wiperblades either and I doubt they will replace those after a few years for free. They leave it open for "other items" and those listed are "just some of the examples". I guess the dealer is the first to ask.

is it true the dealer covers brake pads for 03-04 g35's under warranty? i overheard a service advisor said to a customer, "we had to change the brake pads, but there's no charge because it's cover under warranty." can someone confirm this...
