Overlays. A rip off?

For everyone with overlays on there lights, how easy is the install. I am getting my car tinted right now and the guy said they are hard to install and since you only get one chance I should get them done at a tint shop. He said it would cost $150 for install!!!! The overlays only cost $90 for headlights, tailights, and sidemarker, so there is no way im paying $60 more than the product for an install. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

haha! 150!. Plenty of shops will do it for 20 bucks. Doing it yourself isnt that hard either.

Not that tough the install at all, I used to own a sign shop and used to do these all the time as well. Safest way is to use soapy water and apply it wet. Squeegee the water out as you go and you should have no bubbles/problems

Trust me, it's hard if you've never done anything like it before. I would definitely suggest taking it to a tint shop, which should normally cost about $30 for each side, so $60 for the headlights and taillights. You can do the sidemarkers yourself (they're REALLY easy).

hey man i went to many tint shops here in south florida and know one would touch them... it sucked i was in the same position as you, but i didnt even get a price, every one just simply said they wouldnt do it... so i did it myself it was very hard especaily if u never did anything like this before... but you can do it, just takes lots of time, i did headlights, tails, rear valence. what a beotch!! but there on the heads and tails look ok but the rear valence is a little off.

but what can you do. i paid 120 for overlays they had to go on, btw they look great!!

good luck.

i wouldnt do that **** by myself and ive been workin on cars since 98. its so annoying to get them in the right place, constantly wetting them with soapy water and stretching them with a hair dryer/heat gun. i got someone to do my taillights with the gtr version and they couldnt line up the covers to the inner circles, since theres a curve on the taillights, its a lot harder then people are saying, just my .02

Prices do vary. Anywhere from $15-$60 per set.

id take them to a vinyl shop to have them install them, thats the kind of stuff they work with everyday, i worked in a vinyl shop for 2 years was better than my boss at it, but tint is a whole different ball game believe it or not. My friend who has a tint shop...cant to stickers worth a damn. But the reason they cost so much to install is just in case they do mess them up, then they can replace them w/o losing money.
