Question DUH! OEM Paint is weaksauce

almost under 1k miles, owned for 3 weeks, home garaged at night and parking garage during day. washed my car twice so far... and on the second time, on the rear of my g35 sedan, next to my back windshield, on the passenger side, a quarter of an inch paint chip... WITH RUST!

wtf how could it be so deep and in that location?

i'm going to talk to the broker that i went thru to get a good deal on the car, and also my local dealership in norcal (car was originally from socal).

i did a search to see what others have done, people don't give follow ups, so if you can reply with your experince and knowledge on this situation, i would appreciate it.

its under the warantee, my drip rail for my trunk lid is rusting at 56k, and hell i even wash and wax it there. My front bumper is missing a 1 1/2 by 6inch piece of paint and the clear is delaminating on the rear bumper and the clear also came off in 2 1x2 inch sections. From what i hear this paint on our cars is waterbased, which basically means we are guinea pigs because this paint is in the fairly early stages. And i have numerous bugs inprinted into mypaint so yeah...after i get out of school which i basically came to refine my painting skills, i am going to repaint the whole front clip of the car and bumper.

Agreed, My paint isn't as strong/thick as a BMW's and it has chipped here and there...but that's from people slamming their doors into me and stuff. I haven't had any rust or anything like that, that's crazy

this is old news, guys. true, the weak paint is due to the fact that its water-based. but, we are not the guinea pigs since all new cars now are painted with water-based paints due to new epa laws. therefore, all new cars will have weak paint. you should see my wife's honda accord, the hood and front bumper looks horrible with thousands of paint chips.

Sorry to hear about the paint chip, but I bet that the rust is NOT from your body...but is in fact small metallic deposits that have rusted. If you were to strip down the wax (dawn mix) and claybar that area, I will bet dollars-to-donuts the rust will come off.

It's sad to see how bad the paint is on our cars
