to those w/ IP G35's with kits

i was wondering how well the paint matched up after you got the kit put on..did the body shop have to color match or did they just paint the stock color and hope it'll match?

when ever you paint large body panel area's, you ALWAYS SHOULD color match and blend if possible.

Also note that the paint on ABS plastic/Fiberglass will look different than it does on Metal surfaces. Just like how IP always has a slight different color from factory of the rear bumper and quarter panel.

You need to find a good reputable shop and spend some good money to get a quality job.

^ exactly. i'd recommend you leave the gas cap with the shop if you're not leaving your car there. especially since hawaii kills the color fast.

The key is color blending...there's no way they can just paint the bumper and pop it in...they gotta gradually paint the entire area to get a nice blend and color match.

And don't forget, the number of coats of Ivory gives a different look. Having the paint code is great, but they'll have to figure out how many coats of Ivory are needed for the right shade. The pearl didn't seem to be the difficult part.

I had some fender repair, the Gialla, NISMO front and DS rear spoiler done at the same time. The fender is fine, but the fiberglass bumper, grill and spoiler show a difference under flourescent lighting. In the sun, popping as IP does so well, it's a perfect match. It's only in my garage that I notice the difference. That difference is about the same as that between your OEM metal panels and plastic bumpers.

painting by just the code is bad. especially since your car is an '03 in hawaii. my brother is in the autobody business since Red's Hydro's was the s.hit. he paints show cars just like Tech One Customs.

don't paint just by the code. it's only a basis for the color matching to begin. if you're competing in shows, you don't want a cheap a.ss job like jdbinspired (he knows about what i'm saying). some of the judges were not impressed with the paint, bodywork, and the fitment issues. *** (judge) said, "the car is nice from far, but up close it's got many imperfections...."

do it right the first time, to prevent future costs. after all, it's a G35, not a Prius.

When they hood and fender blend it, do they paint the whole hood and fender or just the first parts that touch the front bumper?

By the way, my painter said before he painted the clear coat, the color was right. The color was off only after he painted the clear coat. Is that true?
