i just purchased the momo AT shift **** and while installing it i got up to a point where when i put the black rubber into the mount and slid the shift **** ontop of it and pushed down. i tried driving the car but the gears wouldnt change. i went onto the forums to look up the shift **** install and i read in one of the posts that i had to cut the black rubber top off, i said to my self sh*t! haha, now the black rubber is stuck in my shift **** and i can get it out, what sohuld i do?

 

Just pull the shift **** up little by little until you can change the gears. That's all I did.

i have a 04 automatic coupe can anyone please help me! i just got my momo shift **** can anyone provide the installation instructions the ones on the paper make no sense .....i would really appericate it i already know how to take off the stock one just i have no idea how to put the new one in thanks!

Just got mine on Monday! I already put it on with no issues in 15 minutes. I can do a DIY on it this weekend! Expect one sunday guys!

 

I'd love to see a DIY on this -- I just got mine today and I thought I'd take a crack at it but I'd love to see some good directions in case I screw it up.

I just did mine last night and it was pretty easy except for when I got the rubber gasket stuck inside the shift ****. That only took about 20 minutes to get out. I saw posts about cutting the gasket but I assumed that meant poke a hole in it so that the top part of the shift rod (?) would slide over, but what it really means is to cut the entire top off the thing.

Once I figured that out, what I did was put the shifter over the rod without the gasket just so I could see how far down it would need to go to engage the clutch (?). Mark that point, then put the gasket about halfway inside the shifter and work both of them down to that mark. Then work the shifter completely over the gasket, and screw in the three screws. Well, two in my case -- one of them wouldn't go in, but it's still really tight so I'm not worried about it.

Oh, one other oddity, the silver ring that covers the screw holes screws on backwards. That was news to me.

(?) = lack of proper car part terminology...this is the first car I've owned that's worth learning about, so I'm a bit new to all of this.

 

Was DIY ever made for this?

 

Has anyone tired our Search using AT Shift **** install? I recall having posted on several threads back in '08 how to lower the shift **** by cutting down the center actuator with a Dremel and reshaping. Momo shifter sitting 1/2" lower just looks better! I've moved on from the Momo to a KJ Burnt Titanium **** but the shifter still works great without issues...Gary
