Thinking about changing my interior

So after having my G for 7 months I am sick of the willow interior. I bought it used so the interior was perfect when i bought it. I would really like to change it to black. I was wondering if anyone knew how much a shop would charge to do this. I am seriously considering doing it myself. I think I can handle laying down suede on some of the panels but what should I do about the dash and pieces that I dont want to cover in suede? I have heard that you can buy a special paint. Will this paint make it look like stock black? I have also been looking into suede and I came across ultrasuede. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? Should I get real suede or will this stuff be just as nice. I am open to any suggestions. Prices for suede and other materials would also be really helpful.

There are tons of pieces you would need to buy to do the swap, and at dealer prices you are looking at an insaneeeeee job. Custom work can also be tricky because if it is a cheap job, you cant expect it to come out well. You need to remember that in order to do a complete swap, you have to switch door panels, front and rear seats, dash, glove boe(s), center console, shifter, gauge cluster, steering wheel and cover, and carpets. It is just an insane amount of work, and it would prob. cost less to turn the car in and buy one with a black interior. If you are determined to do this your best bet is to find a wrecked G35, or someone with a black interior who wants to swap with your willow. Also if your interior is just messy/dirty and you want it to be cleaner, go to a professional detailer, im sure the could make it look good as new; but if you are only doing it becasue you hate the color, then this would obv not be a solution.

well as of right now the leather on my seats are in bad shape. I am definitely going to get new leather for the seats either way. I dont really want to buy all new interior pieces. I have heard about the spray on paint but I havent heard how well it works. I was also planning on using suede on a lot of the stuff like the pillars and headliner since it is cheaper than replacing it.

I also am not in a rush to complete the project so I plan on using ebay to get most of the parts. I dont really mind if it takes a few months to complete. And does anyone know if you can fit an 06 center console on an 04? Like the armrest/ shifter portion?

Its an insane amount of work, and then when you are all done, and finially take it for a ride, you here all the rattles and squeks from where something did not lien up bacuse you had to source all your parts fomr different wrecked cars, and then , the best you have to look forward too is a used looking interiour.

I got a full set of willow seats, front and rear that i am going to sell, no rips , no tears , no cracking. They could use a good cleaning from sitting in the garage, but they are almost perfect.

You can't be serious about "laying down some suede". First off Suede would look horrible in about 6 months, even if you were able to do a professional looking job, which I doubt unless you have solid upholstery experience. It's fine for panels that would never get touched but suede is a very fine leather that will get heavily matted down plus the slightest bit of oil, grease or a spill and it's toast.

Ultrasuede is pretty tough stuff I have a sofa with that material in my game room. It easy to clean and the nap fluffs up nicely with a light brushing. If you insist on that look that would be a better option.

As for spray on paint. I changed the seat color on a sport bike I had years ago. The seat was Red and I painted it Black. It looked amazing, never peeled, scratched or faded, but it was vinyl not leaher. I remember it being really slick to sit on - not ideal for a bike that went 165. Also the finish was too shiney for an auto interior.

As for covering your dash I've done that as well - an '84 944 - my first sports car 20+ years ago. I had the dash, which cracked (common for those cars just a few years past new!) covered by a shop professionally. It looked good for about 2 weeks then one of the concaved surfaces released the glue that held the material down to the surface and it bugged me everyday after that. It's probably easier just to buy the car you want. Sell yours and find another car with right color interior/exterior. That's just my opinion for what it's worth.
