Which is why I keep asking them why they need a handbrake

It is easier to shift out of "park" on a slope if you use the parking brake.

If you park on a slope, put it in "park", and let go of the brakes, the car will slide back a bit and somewhat "lock". And when you shift out of "Park", it'll be slighty harder to shift out of park. Other than that reason, i have no idea what you would need if for.

I think they do not know how to perform a power-slide/power-on drift and thus they want to drift it like it's a FWD civic dragging the rear from side to side while the front wheels smoke...

So why wouldn't you engage the footbrake before letting go of the brakes? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing as a handbrake?

technically, it kind of works with an automatic also, if the TC unlocks and you pull the handbrake, you can get the wheels to break loose and then mash the gas, similar to a clutch drop in a 6mt, but not nearly as effective and not great on the transmission/engine

I have an automatic and i can drift it just fine. There's different ways of breaking the rear loose. If you wipe it the opposite way of the up coming turn and the n throw it into an oversteer and that puts it into a drift as long as the drive control it.
