Yes it can..... HOWEVER, the bases are different so it wouldn't fit without getting a new front windshield...

This first picture is a NON dimming/garage door mirror....

This picture is the premium mirror....

If you cant tell, the shape of the base that attaches to the windshield are different in size. If you take the mirrors off, the metal piece that is glued to your windshield is different. You would have to pull it off and replace it with the correct shape... THAT'S THE PROBLEM.... Your not getting that off without possibly cracking the windshield, so you'd have to replace the entire windshield.

I tried this when I first got my sedan...

Good info Nathan. I never knew that the bases for the non-dimming and auto-dimming mirrors are different. I have the auto-dimming w/ HomeLink mirror, and compared to driving a loaner sedan w/ a basic mirror, I would never find myself driving without an auto-dim mirror.

On an OT note, have fun at the Hooter's meet today and hope the weather stays good on your side (it's pretty crappy here)

I am sure there is a way to take the base off without damaging the windshield, such as heating the base. Just contact a windshield repair shop and ask them how to take it off.

I was told by a mechanic and a window guy it's ALMOST impossible to get the metal piece off the glass without it breaking. Something about the type of glue they use.

In Florida, if your windshield is cracked for any reason, your insurance will replace it for free... I'm waiting until mine needs replacing, and I'm going to let them know I have the premium mirror so they put the right metal piece on...

As far as the wires... You can pull the glass holder/light plastic thing off and check... I'm not sure...

well i had my windshield changed on my truck, and the company came and changed it for me, they also had to take off the metal piece and they used some kind of tiny twisted cable and they just moved it from on side to another , they used it like a saw, ,,

Or you can just glue the new one on top of the old one. I doubt you can tell.

The old mirror comes right off.

There is a guy on ebay who sells the plug with open wires at the other end. I got one of those and ran the wire down the a-pillar to where my EDFC, EBC and UTEC tuner are.
