I hope someone may be able to help me identify this weird piece of foam I found on the floor of my car this morning...

I get in to leave for work and this foam strip is lying on the floormat, just behind the brake pedal.

I KNOW this thing is probably not important to anything and was probably mounted on the panel under the steering column, but I would still like to know what it is.

As you may be able to tell from the pics, it is roughly 7 1/2 inches long, it is only 1/4 inch thick and 3/4 inch wide...

 

I can't believe NOBODY knows what this little piece of foam is...
