Angry Garage door homelink HELP!

Today I finally got a garage in my building. We pay 100 a month. Except they didn't give me a remote because apparently we have to rent one from a third party company. WTF! Now I have to use a key to open the door when I enter/exit the garage, which is irritating. Move the seat back, open the door, move the seat forward etc.

Okay so I would have to pay another $100+ a year for a remote. But I wanted to scheme it and program my homelink garage controller with the use of someone elses remote. However my neighbor told me that basically it can't be done; something about a rolling signal and not being able to do this. I haven't tried but I hope this isn't true. Does anyone here live in a building and have some experience with this issue? Is there any way I can scheme this and not pay for a remote which I don't need.

If you read the owners manual it will tell you that the remote can only be a few inches from the home link in order to set it. You can buy a cheep remote from your local hardware store for around 20 dollars.

All u need is 2 ppl to program the homelink. 1 person to push the reset button and the other in the car to hold the button at the same time the first person pushes the reset button. It will not work with the remote opener to set the homelink.

Also like someone stated, u can go to homedepot and guy a remote that matches your garage opener.

As long as you have access to the systems learn button.

if you live in a large complex with many different people with many remotes, there is no way to have a rolling code for all residents. i live in a multi unit building and i use the homelink on my car.

I did this programing on my maxima, I remember leaving the remote at home, you tested the homelink with and without the remote in your car?
