Yeah that is true.. I'm at 93k and have only had to replace my cam sensors.. My driver seat bolster is gone and the seat motor is barely working but I guess that's only minor problems..

i got fed up with this **** of gluing and it peeling off the next month, ive dont so much gluing the material is all ****ed up on the other side, i just paid someone to replace it - $80.00 for both sides. The material is the same but the pattern is different, the pattern is a leather texture look like the plastic paneling.

It's just bare plastic underneath. I had been driving my coupe for like six months before my son pointed out that the passenger side rear panel was gone, I had never even noticed. So I had him pull off the driver's side one as well.

You literally would never even know that the leather panels are missing. Like I said, I was driving the car for six months and never noticed it, and I looked right in that direction every time I checked my blind spot to make a lane change. It looks fine without them.

I found my rear passenger insert had pulled off around the edges this past summer. I own an 04 as well.
I did a little research, and went with the 3M super trim adhesive. my insert peeled right off, and the plastic panel underneath like others stated is the willow color like my interior.
I taped off around the panel, and then applied a few light coats to both the plastic insert, and the back of the vinyl foam backed material as well.
I then waited 5 minutes or so for the adhesive to start to set, then proceeded to reapply the fabric from the back of the insert forward. I used a plastic bondo tool to push the edges in around the insert. and made sure the center was flat and all the material had adhered.

I didn't take pics because you can find a similar repair DYI process on youtube. I believe it was for an 06 mustang door panel.......same operation, only a mustang in the video. Good luck everyone.

I will let you know if the fix was successful in a couple weeks........I'm hoping this will stop this problem for good. time will tell.

I plan to fix the driver side door panel on my 03 coupe where the leather is starting to peel away at the edges.

Is there a consensus on the best type of glue to use for the edges? Does anyone have any long-term fixes where the leather has not started to peel again?

i straight up just pulled mine off and left them without it, they actually look pretty decent without the leather covering, i asked my brother if he noticed anything about the panels and he couldnt figure it out, when i told him they were originally covered with leather he was surprised, he thought they were supposed to be like that.

the only thing ive noticed is that the previous owner tried to spray some adhesive on one of the panels and it doesnt seem to wanna come off, im going to try goo gone tonight and see what happens.

just my 2 cents! :}

It seems that some people have had good luck with gorilla glue and others with professional repair shops. Just wondering if you guys could share your (hopefully successful) experiences dealing with this issue.

Thanks!

I fixed my falling leather on my drivers side door panel with Permatex brand contact cement. I also posted a diy write up and pictures.

Search - Sagging/Falling door panel repair

Contact cement is definitely the route to go, if applied after doing proper prep work, your results will be as good as mine. Also Permatex is resistant to heat and moisture.

Seems no one really posted follow up to this thread so hard to know what actually works. Live in north Texas so summer temps routinely hit the upper 90s to low 100s. The leather is pulling away on both rear doors plus the upper glove box is pulling away as well. Looking for at least a semi permanent fix. Might check with the upholstery shop near me, might be something they've dealt with.
