Running GPS/Sirius antennas up onto rear parcel shelf
Guys,
I'm in the process of relocating my GPS and Sirius antennas to the rear speaker deck/parcel shelf. I tried just running/tucking the wires behind the plastic finisher along the right rear of the vehicle but unfortunately, the speaker deck/parcel shelf is mounted so tightly that I can't get under it well enough to properly secure the wires. The antennas will be mounted in the middle of the shelf with the wires heading down the backside underneath.
I read that I need to take off both rear side armrest/speaker plastic finishers to get the parcel shelf out. I tried doing that and accidentally broke one of the plastic clips that lock it in place. Now it sticks out a bit on one side.
Do you guys have any tips for getting those wires up underneath to the back of the parcel shelf that don't involve removing the side plastic panels? If not, maybe you have some tips on safe removal of those pieces? I've read the FSM and it's not super-clear on how to gently remove those finishers.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The only way to get wires under the rear deck is to remove it. I know that in a coupe you need to take out the rear seats, take off the rear side panels (covering the speakers) and also remove the upper plastic panel. You basically need to take everything out of the rear of the car, only then can you take out the rear shelf. There are some threads on here with pics that detail step by step instructions.

Yeah, I heard there's a DIY out there but I could find nothing useful. I'm using the FSM and the removal procedure seems rather esoteric. Guess they expect the techs using that manual to have tons of experience digging into the car, in addition to having plenty of experienced Infiniti techs nearby to lend a hand as necessary.
Anyone able to locate a good DIY for removing the parcel shelf, and everything leading up to it?

I ran my gps wire under the rear deck just by using a door panel tool. Basically it's a V shaped tool with a handle on it. It allows you to get behind a panel without marring it. I will say however that your Sirrius reception will be ****ty if you put the antenna inside the car. It really needs to be on the outside of the car. Even XM which is far better as far as reception then Sirrius is has reception issues when the antenna is inside the car.

I've been driving around with it on my rear shelf and in general it works pretty good, but occasionally it does cut out for a few seconds. Guess I'll see how it goes..
What tool are you talking about again? I can see how I can run the antennas up under there but I'd have no way of securing the wire (I'm afraid it'll move around during aggressive driving). Still I'd like to try that before breaking open my entire rear section.
Thanks for the tip.

This is the one I use for almost all of my interior work.

I've been driving around for a day or two with the antenna taped to the rear deck (as a test run) and if I drive through areas with lots of trees and shade, the Sirius signal cuts in and out. it's only really reliable on wide open roads with clear shots at the sky in any direction. In addition, I also noticed that there's a 1 second delay when changing channels now.
I had absolutely on issues when it was mounted outside. If I want to put it back outside, I'd think like it to go on the roof instead of on my trunk again. In fact, I'd really like it to resemble the stock GPS antenna mount on the rear of the roof.
How does the stock GPS antenna wire get outside to the roof? Is there a hole cut in the roof and wire run up under the cabin headliner? It doesn't appear that the wire could run out any other way.
I'm just wondering if there's any way for me to mount this outside but make it look very close to the OEM satellite hookup.
Thanks again, guys!
