I am switching the color of the lights in my steering wheel controls in my 05 coupe. Do I have to disassemble the steering wheel to get to the leds or can I simply pop them off while keeping everything else assembled. I briefly tried pulling them off but didn't want to risk setting of an airbag or bending the plastic. Anyone know? Thanks.

are the screws in step #6 removed in order to take off the controls? It's not quite clear on this. It seems like many of the steps in that DIY may be unncessesary for my purposes but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for the response
