Want to swap 6MT hand brake into 5AT - Confirmed do-able!
Here's my dilemma...my legs don't work. One gripe I have with my 2006 G is it has a pedal for a parking brake. 99% of the time, I could see this being fine but in my case it kinda sucks. There have been times I have parked on a hill and really wanted to use a parking brake but I can't.
Would it be possible to swap the entire center console out of a 6mt and hook the cable linkage for the hand brake up to the rear of the car? If this has been covered, I appologize...couldn't find anything.

The way I see it, it has to be possible. My only question is why they didn't put a hand brake in the autos in the first place. From how it looks, I think I should be able to swap out the console and shifter/ashtray shroud for the 6MT to work. I just wonder how the linkage is set up for the cables. You would think the mounting tabs would be there since the car is designed the same. I am more and more intrigued to figure it out.
Pull the seat out and lift up the carpet to take a peak.
I am sure it all bolts up, only thing might be where the cable actually comes up into the car could be different, and the length of the cable would be different as well.
You may need a new set of ebrake cables that fit the hand brake but that should be all.

Easier said then done when your a gimp like me. I agree though...I was thinking a MT set of cables and linkage would be necessary. I would also like to get the current pedal out of the way because it gets in the way when I am trying to get my legs in and out of the car.

I have to remove my centre console to plug in my ipod adaptor.
Ill pull my seat to fix the creak and the same time and let you know what I see.
It is not going to be immediately though, gotta wait on some nicer weather here.
Getting exactly what you want should be doable.

When I get thinking about something I can't stop until I figure it out. I decided to go over to the dealer today and have them print out some schematics for both the manual and autos. It looks like the linkage going the the rear wheels is exactly the same. The only difference is for the auto, there is a longer cable running up to the pedal instead of a short one that runs to the hand brake.
Now all I have to do is track down a center console, gearshift shroud w/hazzard button, and the hand brake and cable. For sh*ts and gigs, I had the dealer look up prices...$1600. haha That sounds about right. I will let you guys know how it all works out and post up the schematics once I have access to a scanner.

Well I think there is a couple things, Does the center console of a 6mt fit the auto? Will it cause any problems when shifting into park/1....
The ebrake and cables, I can ask a buddy he might have a set. The pedal on the floor can definatly be removed after your new setup is installed. I think it is 100% doable. I would think. You need the parts you listed, but the only think that might be an issue is the gear shifter and center console.

contact a LKQ used parts and they can get a set off a wrecked G 6mt .

I have seen this done in other nissans.
here is a lil info as far as the center console is concern. I did an interior swap from beige to black in my coupe. Now i accidentally bought 2 of the S shape pieces that go on each side of the radio from a sedan. They fit but my center console didnt. With that being said you might need to change these pieces to coupe pieces in order to fit the center console. Unless you find a 6mt sedan center console which should be the same height. Here are pictures for reference, top is coupe bottom is sedan. btw i have center console, S pieces and e brake available in beige.

I figured all this out in the dark last night so I may take a closer look. I already have a 6MT center console so it's worth a shot. There are still a couple other issues I am dealing with though. The arm rest for the auto is a lot longer than for the manual. Since I use a hand control, this longer arm rest is key for comfort because I can rest my elbow on it and drive. I would lose that with the 6MT console.
