Tint - Dots around Rear windows

I got my window tinted with 3M metallic tint. It has been over 3 weeks and the tint did not seal over the dots across the top and around the rear windshield. I also have the problems around the windows on the rear quarter panel windows. I was wondering if anyone else is having those problems. If not, I'm taking it back and having them retint my windows using more adhesive. I've also heard that you can sand down the dots but I found that out after I got my car tinted. Thanks

Re: Tint - Dots around Rear windows

everyone has that prob. the only fix is to lay glue down over the dots to make the glass level. Hardly any tint shops do that. Either make them do that or just live with it. I guess it would all depend on how much u paid. I paid under $150 so i'm not really concerned as the dots arent that noticable on my car

I have not had that problem, but I aslo didn't get 3M. My tint is LLumar. It had small bubbles for a day or so and then it became perfect. 3Ms good stuff-have it redone at the same shop(for free) and see how it looks.

Re: Tint - Dots around Rear windows

You have to be careful if you have them redo it. The chance exists that they will damage the heater lines in the back. I had a heart attack when I had to have mine redone and they took a METAL Scrub pad to help with taking off the glue from the first job. This removed some of the orange coating on the lines, luckly they did not seem to have damaged anything.
The shop did not clean up properly after they were done, metal filings were stuck in the **** of the rear deck and I being **** retentive took the rear deck out myself and cleaned it up.
Believe me it was PITA!! Plus when I removed the deck, since they had to use so much water to remove the glue, I found water everywhere, including in the sub-woofer.
Just my 2 cents, if it is not visible until you are 2" away and not falling off, LEAVE it alone.

Mine didn't stick either, but it looks like a nice even line so it's not bad. I'll live with it.

Carlos,
It really did suck!! I have been around cars for a while and know the in and out of some things, so I figured they would do it the standard way and leave it out in the sun for a time to soften the glue up, pull the film off and then use amonia to remove the rest. BUT they did not and I did not ask why, since I did not notice until I was driving home that something didn't look right in the rear view mirror.

Thanks Fellas, It doesn't look too bad, so I'd live with it rather than have them screw up more stuff.

BTW. If anyone lives in Dallas, TX, don't get your car tinted at Sun Masters. The 3M film is great but the attention to detail and quality isn't top notch.
Edited by tonke73 on 04/09/03 09:44 AM.

Ther you go tonke! You made the right decision. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be so obsessive.

Re: Tint - Dots around Rear windows

I took mine to Alta Mere. It was $200, but they have a computer that cuts the tint to the precise measurements. Cool!
