Gap between Backseat and Trunk Opening
Gap between Backseat and Trunk Opening
Hi guys. Have you all noticed there is a gap on our coupe between the backseat the trunk opening? It seems to be quite a bit of space there which could have been used for our paltry trunk space! I wonder if the Sedan folks have this gap? I guess I could mount my future amps on the backseat and slide it in that gap and actually protect the amp a bit. I was just wodering why they did this?!

I took my spare and all the plastic crap out of the trunk for autox. Never bothered to put it back since it gives me alot of extra usable trunk space....

hehehehe, did you have to use the diagram to fit the golf clubs in there originally? hahaha
Note: if no one knows what I am talking about, there is a diagram on the carpet side of the trunk lid that shows how to fit two full size sets of golf clubs...

What the....
I never noticed it. I had to go look to make sure.
It's like the interior design team and the trunk team didn't share their CAD drawings. It is a pretty big space, there must be a reason it exists. Right?

1. They had to do this to make the slop of the backseat the way it is or the people sitting in the back won't hit their heads on the rear window.
2. I thought I remember that the rear seat reclines on independently so the space can be there so the seats can recline. Although maybe this feature was only on the Sedan and they changed their minds?
3. I have no idea why! Really, that is some wasted space! I tried to figure out if the rear seats reclined but still haven't seen a way to do it.
Whatever the reasons may be, it is wasted space and I am going to use it! I am planning on putting my amps mounted low back there in that space and fabricate a cover that will cover up the opening (with a fan of course, one for intake and one for exhaust). It will be totally clean and no wasted space. If I need to put something big in there, I can easily remove it.
i really don't think you can fit an amp in this space. when you fold the seat back up the bottom part of the seatback pretty much closes the gap in there. you might have 2-3 inches at best, but not enough for amps.
to prove this theory i would do the following.... find a cardboard box roughly the size of your amp (or build one, i did this when i was checking the fitment for my JL amp) and put it in there... then fold the seat back up... if it gets crushed you know you're not gonna fit it.
if you need to mount an amp without losing much trunk space, mount it to the back of the rear seat... will only lose like 2 inches of trunkspace due to the depth of the amps and alot of people go this route. OR, my JL 500/1 amp is mounted right on top of my bose amp and it fits perfectly there too and doesn't consume any trunk space.
