I honestly don't think it would be worth it. People in Yokosuka are cheap skates.
For example. I couldn't sell a gt-r that was worthover 10k for 6k or even 5k (50k on the odometer). I also couldt sell an 8yr old sedan with 30k on the odometer for 3k even though it came with a warranty from Toyota and 2 yrs of JCI. Both cars had no dents or dings. Plus, I don't belive I'm allowed to sell it to a Japanese national, I believe that was one of the importation clauses.

you might check and see if the clause has a time limit. i sold my mini to a japanese dealership for almost what i paid for it 3 years earlier. im sure there is a way around it. i remember seeing dealerships with all american cars, mostly classic hot rods. you are definitly right about not being able to get anything on base for it though.

Updated pics of the car in Japan

Here the lights were modded for Japanese inspection. Those will be removed once I get my plates

Sorry about the water spots. Just got the car out of the shop

Haven't had a chance to get more pictures out in Town yet. I just picked the car up today and I'll post pictures of the changes to my rear lights in a couple of days. Warning, it isn't pretty

In Japan the latest craze is putting all the Infiniti bits on the Skyline,

Here in the UK i have a friend who imports *** cars, recentley we had a 350GT arrive from Japan comletley badged as a Infinitii including the brake capliers, yet you guys in the states want to badge all your Skyline... how funny is that, the IK guy now has to remove alll the Infinit bits to put back to a Skyline ...

we get your G37 (Skyline 370GT ) in UK March 2009 prices start at £34.000 GBP thats almost $60.000

As a UK buyer its much cheaper for me to buy 350GT parts ( JDM parts) from UK guys in USA as you have such a large market of JDM parts and the $ to pound rate is so good

Let me give you example

Factory spoiler Nissan UK £500 GBP but from USA $79 thats like £38 GBP + shipping my spoiler was like £80 GBP delivered,

you guys in USA don't know how lucky you are, in the UK they'd tax your grand parents if they could everything here is expensive we have 70% tax on fuel

Read my last post. As you will see, my car is already in Japan. As far as "conversion" costs go, it is just the lights. The emissions passed with flying colors on the first try. Safety standards are higher in the states, so no problem there.

IF I would have sold my car, I would have not been able to sell it for what I owed on it. On top of that, I couldn't have bought another one here for what I would have sold it for. So I would have lost out twice.

Shipping it to Japan was free and I didn't have to pay any import fees.

All in all, your analogy wouldn't work in my case.

You say the latest craze? Where have you been. They have been doing that for years. Just like we do. Everyone wants to stand out with their cars.
Guess what, A left had Drive "Skyline" stands out like a sour thumb and I wouldn't have it any other way
Almost every time I drive my car someone new give me props.

This is a great thread!

I am planning on moving to JP next year as well and want to bring my G35 since it's already done on the mods side, however one of the guys here in Raleigh did all of the paperwork for his 350Z when he moved and it was going to cost around 10k USD for everything. I don't know if I should just split up the car and sell everything then buy something over there. At least that is my current plan?

Any hookups on the free shipping by way of our military?

Let me get back to you on that.

I know that shipping from east to west coast will cost between $500~$750. I believe shipping from California to Tokyo/Yokohama is ~$3,000. The inspection for emissions is $2,000 (in Tokyo). I'm not sure how much the safety inspection is (Mine was done on base for only $25, but in Japan it is definately more).

Gotta go, I'll get more info for you later.
