Auto Headlight Sensitivity

Anyone know whether adjusting the automatic headlight sensitivity is a DIY item, or can only be done by a dealer?

You need a CONSULT-II and a service manual. Your dealer is the most likely to have both.

Auto headlamp sensitivity

Thanks for the reply. Seems like the auto headlight control is very sensitive even thought the dealer tells me he adjusted it from the most to the least sensitive setting. On my way to work this morning at about 6:30 AM, the headlights came on and off at least 7 times, every time I drove under a set of trees. I get that they are supposed to come on when its dark, but there ought to be able to distinguish between transient darkness (like while passing under a tree) from true darkness (nighttime, or in a tunnel). That said, the sensitivity ought to be governed by time rather than light intensity. Anyone know how it works?

It is supposed to be governed by both... (IE, a specific amount of time that it is light/dark). With that being said, I can manage to get through a tunnel if traffic is moving, without having the lights come on... But if traffic backs up, the lights turn on.

It sucks that you can't adjust them without the Consult-II, like you can my other car. IIRC, I thought the service manual said the least sensitive setting, requires 45 seconds of light/dark to toggle the lights on/off.

Wow! No way is the delay 45 seconds. More like 5 seconds. Time to go back to the dealer.
