Coupe update:
I have the tail lights, working on cutting em open and building up a control board for them. I should have an idea how many LED's to stuff in there by the weekend or shortly thereafter.

I'm still a sedan guy though! I'm surprised more people with 03-04 sedans haven't said much.
Nice one! I had started working on a project like this a couple of years ago with a guy who did these for mustangs. My idea was a little different in that I wanted to flip the functions of the turn indicator and brake light... so that the large LED bank would become the sequntial turn signal (ala '68 tbird), and the smaller upper turn signal would be the brake (along with the lower led bank)
1. step on the brake: upper lights up with lower. Lower cycles outward twice and then stops "on" until brake is released. If brake hit again within 10 seconds, it would just stay "on", no cycling.
2. turn indicator: lower cycles outward for duration of turn
3. hazard: upper flashes and lower cycles out. (With your mod, upper and lower could cycle outward.)
But the guy said it would require so much cutting/retracing of the circuit board that he wasn't sure it could be done. At that time, it was also way too expensive to be cutting up my tailights and you'd have to buy a second set from the dealer (new) to play around.
Congrats.. looks great (want to try my idea^?)

SoCalTed,
Anything is possible, but right now I can't take on a project that intensive. I don't want to hack apart the existing LED wiring, then add in all the extra functionality you want. It certainly is an ambitious project though
It could be done, but the man hours needed to realize that circuit and board would be a complete pain. And yes, you definitely would need a set to play around with while your car had a set in also. The possibilities are endless, unfortunately time and money are very limited

Installation difficulty depends on the person
You need to splice 8 wires for the installation (4 for the load resistors and 4 for the power and ground of the control board) Quick splices work just fine for this.
Yes sedan.

Signals are still in the top part of the lens. Do I have to cut/dremel any part of the lens out to fit the control board?
Splicing - no problem - I have a car lighting guy who can help me out - if you can tell me what wires to splice.
