Hey all,

Anyone know the factory color output and any other relevant specs on the OEM '06 HID D2S bulbs?

I can't seem to find this searching the forums...

They are Phillips 85122+ colorshift resistant bulbs
4200k color temperature
3400 lumens

wow the factory ones are the 85122+? thought they were 85122

So I guess I should just keep the stock D2S bulbs after IvoryGT's cutoff/color mod DIY is completed in the next few weeks? Those should work well to give a nice color flicker while maximizing lumens?

I think you get color flicker but not necessarily maximize lumens because I remember paul saying that color gained = light loss somewhere.

I think I understand. But even with the OEM D2S HID's and some color flicker after the mod, I imagine the output will still be quite better than having the Ultinon 6000k D2S bulbs in the stock non-modified projectors. And I'll also have the added benefit of some nice flicker!

Long story short, I will lose some light output but to minimize how many lumens I sacrifice I should just stick with the OEM HID bulbs (or any high quality aftermarket bulbs that have a ~4300k color temp).

Correct me if i'm wrong... Isn't 85122+ same as the so-call 5000K phillips bulbs? if it is, then, is it really 4200K or 5000K? I thought the 85122+ has a more white colour output then the regular 85122...

that is incorrect, and that incorrect information has been widely spread so that alot of people get it confused. The 5000k phillips bulbs are the 85122CM, the 85122+ is actually slightly yellower than the 85122 bulbs and stay that color rather than colorshifting to a bluer color over time.

OMG, no wonder why my headlight is so much more of a yellow compare to my friend's m-benz..... sigh.....

Do you think it will be better to use the 5000K 85122CM bulbs in our car to get the pure white look? or is it going to be a waste of money?

I hate my 6000K bulbs as they don't light up the road that much... and I hate the OEM ones as they look too yellowish... (I got ppl asked me how come G35 doesn't have HIDs... )

no bulb is going to really solve your issue because the color from the benz is likely due to the actual projector they are using and not the bulb. Our projectors have a fresnel lense which blurs the cutoff and prevents any color formation, which is why our projectors appear white/yellowish. 85122CM bulbs are almost impossible to find, but are an okay solution, much better than 6000k ultinons which suck for output. The only real solution is to swap the fresnel lense out for a tsx lense, and modding the shield for more color. IvoryGT has a DIY on how to do this, or you can send your headlights to him for work

I'm sending my headlamps to Paul and he's going to mod my projectors using the TSX lenses then complete the cutoff/color DIY for me. Which bulbs are you using in your modded projectors? It sounds like the 85122CM might be a good option...

I use the stock 85122+ bulbs because they have the most output for d2s bulbs. If you can find 85122CM bulbs and thats what you want, then get them. You'll lose ~200 lumens of output for a bluer output though.

Do you have any pics posted of your color output modded projectors with the OEM bulbs?

And what bulbs are you using in the H4 fog lamp?

something like this, but my camera doesn't pic up the purple in the cutoff so it all looks blue which isn't the case. I'm still running stock bulbs in the lowbeams until I find some time to work on my quad retrofit

That looks great. So you're using the OEM bulbs for both the projectors and the fogs?
