Arrow 06 headlamps custom trim, lense swap and more!!!

I just want to say thanks guys for the contributions you make to this section of the board. I've spent a good amount of time seeing all the fun stuff everyone's been doing to their lights and wanted to chime in and share one of the things I've been up to. Check out a set of 06 lamps I've been playing with recently...

I managed to do the lense swap with my favorite pair of Acura TSX headlamps (gotta replace those clear lenses there again lol) and also managed to paint the projector light pathway to reduce the amount of glare due to more light shining through that area now.

Thanks IvoryGT for your very informative writeup on how to work with these lamps. I've done countless others but these were my first G35 coupe lamps I've touched and let me share with you that they've got plenty of potential...on with the pics...

Here are a few closeup shots of the paint job I did to the projector lightway passage area

Shot of the lamps before I sealed them and polished the lenses

Close up on the lense itself (I dimmed the camera light output for clarity)

Polished lense

A retrofitter's polishing companion

These help too and are worth the 3.99 for the 3 pack lol

So what do you guys think? I'm thinking about doing the CCFL thing but I have a horror story from the past that still haunts me to this day re: CCFL rings. The thing I hate about those is that while they look oh so good, they're usually so fragile, if you sneeze on them they break lol

Seriously, where are you guys finding the strips that sit on those trim lines where the strip on the 03-04 lamp use to be? And are the ones people are finding here actually curved to match the headlamps? I know you're not supposed to bend those strips otherwise they crack. How are you getting away with it?

Thanks Drtybrd61! I love your avatar by the way...is that the lucky lady! As for the 3M stuff, I got them from Murray's autoparts by my parent's place on the northside of Chicago. I think Autozone sells them too. Both the polish and cleaner run about 6.99 a piece while the rubbing compound runs 9.99.

these are the ones i got, you'll have to buy 2 sets, cuz you'll need an inverter for each headlight, also you'll end up have extra tubes, so if you break one, you got an extra

they have them in a couple of colors, blue, purple, red, and i've seen some yellowish oranges ones too

you'll also have to take the actual ccfl tube out of a protector tube, just turn it on for about 15 mins and you'll be able to pull it right out

Thanks g7x5! I'm buying a set off there right now as we speak! Whats funny is that Fry's sells these for about 15.00 off the shelf.

I'd grab these tomorrow after work but for about 9.00 shipped its not bad. I'm going to check out a few sites like microcenter.com and newegg.

I've got a microcenter which I can make it too as well after work and ****** up a set. The only thing I hate is that I gotta reopen up the headlamps again for the 3rd time lol

hey tiguy99,

I did the CCFL on '06 headlights here with the help of IvoryGT:

https://g35driver.com/forums/lighting/164948-first-time-06-headlights-modding-high-heat-black-ccfl-clearance-strips.html

You dont bend them, you have to fit them in the houseing itself and be prepared to cut or dremel out the housing.

I just got both sets (the one I ordered on ebay) and another I found at the store for 10.00 shipped the next day (so I didn't have to feel really stupid for forgetting to order 2 sets on ebay lol)

Anyhow, I'm going to take them apart to extract the white glass tubes out and start doing some surgery on these G35 trims...

Thanks Jberry for the bravery. Hey real quick...did you end up using both tubes on each light or just one tube per headlamp with that one? Has anyone done 2CCFL tubes per side yet?

Actually no Wally I'm in Chicago! But I've got my hands full with a few people's lamps I'm working on at the moment (retrofit wise) it would take you much longer than desired if you were to send them out to me wait on them to be polished then sent back. However, the next best thing and one that would be much quicker would be if I helped you out or everyone out on here have a DIY on how to polish them. What do you guys think?

I only used one CCFL per headlight, It is possible to connect two to one of the inverters but not sure if you can fit two in there?!?
