Pulling apart headlamp this weekend to clean condensation

Hey all,

I'm baking my headlamp this weekend so I can take it apart and clean out some condensation that's built up and will make sure when I'm done to create a nice thick seal afterwards.

1. I was wondering, what's a good cleaning agent to use on the inside face of the headlamp lens cover that won't damage or scratch the surface?

2. And what's the best compound to use when sealing the headlamp back together to ensure no leaks and a tight hold?

Thanks,
B

I've used glass cleaner with a very soft MF towel and VERY light pressure to do some cleaning on the inside of the cover, be careful because it scratches easily and you could make things worse. To reseal, pick up some OEM headlight sealant from Nissan, not sure of the part number, but it comes with all new tailights so your local dealer may have some

Sucks to hear your condensation issue wasn't the ballast. I may have to take mine apart because there are alot of particles under the lenses.

What's an "MF" towel? I've also heard glass cleaner shouldn't be used on plastic...anyone else hear of this? Paul sent me some headlight sealant but I never received it...wondering if it's the stuff at the Nissan dealer?

Damn...just heard I should try using Antistatic Foam Cleanser, the same stuff used to clean computer keyboards and other office equipment, including plastic/vinyl surfaces. It's anti-static too so this could help with dust/dirt particles that may want to stick to the inside of the plastic lenss cover. I may try this out:

I'll let you know how it goes...

Okay so one thing I was thinking about before I start this today is whether I should remove the existing sealant after I bake the headlight so I can lay down a fresh seal. My main concern is to make sure I seal the headlamp 100% so does it make sense to just put additional sealant over top of what's already there when putting back together to provide better adhesion?

Thanks, but I didn't see anything specific in that thread about whether I should remove existing sealant or can just add more over top of what's already there...
