bi hid

Im planning on setting up another set of hid for the fog/hibeam area. Since its going to be using extra wattage do i need to do anything else than just installing the ballast to ensure electical saftey for this car?

Re: bi hid

If you are going to be using extra wattage then you should consider upgrading your wiring and fuses. It really depends on how much extra juice you need. 2 or 3 watts is probably nothing, 10 is a concern. At some point you should probably just run all new wires for power.

Also, I remember reading about a problem with HIDs being used for fog / highs. Basically you lost the fog functionality because there is no filament so it can't be pointed in two directions. Did they fix that?

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Re: bi hid

It's not wattage that kills a harness, but current (amperage) that will cause damage to your harness over time. HID's draws around 15 amps in rush current spike during start up and then runs at a steady state of 6-6.5 amps. Having two sets of HID's running on an oem harness would not something I recommend because the wires can heat up quickly if the rating of the wire can not sustain such a high current throughput. So over time, due to thermal cycling, your wires will degrade and could even break at points where most stress is induced.

When I do my HID retrofits or conversions, I usually build another wiring harness with a relay to draw power straight from the battery. It's much safer that way and you don't even have to worry about damaging your oem harness. Besides, I don't think you want to swap out one of those harnesses cuz they're a pain in the butt to get to.

If you really are going to a HID fog/hibeam setup, I could probably rig up a wiring harness for you.....for a small fee of course.=) But when you ready for the conversion, shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help you out.
