question about D2R and D2S

question about D2R and D2S

Will the D2R bulbs fit in the 06 projectors if i use my 04 ballast some one on the forums posted " You could use the old 2dr bulbs if you scrape off the paint on the glass and add a notch to the base." what is ment by this.

Take a look at the bulb, and you should see the ceramic coating you need to scrape off. You also have to notch the base of the d2r to fit in a d2s housing. Although you'll be better off purchasing real d2s bulbs which will have more output

the D2R will fit, but if you do not scrape off the paint on the bulb, your light output will be compromised. The D2R has black paint on part of the bulb to help prevent glare in reflector housings. The notch is on the different side of the bulb on D2S, so you will need to cut one for the bulb to fit. Check out this page for detailed info http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hl-hid-bulbs.htm

you can find OEM Philips D2S bulbs for pretty cheap on ebay ($35-$40/pair)

yeah, if it was me, I wouldn't bother trying to convert the D2R to D2S. That is unless he has more expensive bulbs like Ultinon's or something.
