I think I'm going to upgrade both ballasts and bulbs.

I undertand 100% what you're saying. I know what I'm getting, and so does the guy that I'm ordering from. D2R and D2S both are P32-d2 bases. D2R have part of the bulb shielded to help direct light output, whereas the D2S are not shielded at all b/c the projector housing directs light output.

Got the kit finally over the weekend. 55 watt D2R bulbs (with ceramic shielding on bulb), 55 watt ballasts, additional wiring with relays. Will get some comparison photos before and after install. Install probably next week.

don't think the shield matters when you are outputing about 5000 lumens per bulb verses 2800 per bulb previously. It's going to glare like crazy.

So what you're saying is that a properly aimed and aligned beam will still glare because of higher light output?

Yes, the reflector housings have a poor cutoff with alot of light leakage above the cutoff, it will glare. Be sure to check your housings quite often also, alot of people on hidplanet that run 50/55w ballasts/bulbs end up burning the chrome off their projector bowls, this might be an issue with the reflector bowls as well although there is more space for heat dissipation in this case

even for projector setups will seem way too bright for the oncoming traffic. same reason why it's not meant for automotive use.

In a reflector setting the glare is much worse.

Shouldn't be too bad...a friend has a 9006 kit on his non-G35 and the glare isn't bad at all after he aimed them down. I've driven behind him and it wasn't an issue.

well crap...i wasn't planning on getting 06 headlights, but I just won an ebay auction for them $220 shipped. Now I have to either get D2S bulbs or scrape the coating off the D2R bulbs.

I don't have the 55watt kit installed yet. Waiting till I get my new front bumper installed, so I'll do the whole install at once.
