OEM Fog lights info ???

Hello all,

I read on the manual that the stock fog bulbs are rated at 55W. Now, is this what they draw? Or does this number symbolize the light output? The reason I ask is that I recently purchased a set of yellow Luminics rated at 55W but the output is 130W. I know many peeps are running these fogs, but I don't know if such a high output wattage could cause issues - I noticed my light housing gets warm around the fog light area with the new bulb, however, I never bothered to check with the stockers so I don't know if it's normal. I know that if the draw wattage is higher than stock, then it could cause the harness to burn, however, these draw 55W just like stock.

Any input would greatly help. I tried searching the forums but nothing answered my question.

Thank you,

Etien

In your case the draw is 55W and it give the equivilent of 130W output.....

You should be fine with that setup. I wouldn't go any higher on the first number.....or you could run into harness problems caused by the higher draw.

Yep 55W is the draw. Alot of aftermarket headlights will show 55W and then a number over 100W that's just the amount of light output they are saying.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. Anyone knows what the output wattage of the OEM bulbs is? The output of the Luminics is 130W and I just wanna make sure they don't melt anything if I'm going much higher than stock. Thanks again!

Also, does the stock OEM fog light make the light housing a little hot? I never bothered to check, and now that I have the Luminics and I checked and it does get warm/somewhat hot.

So you don't think 130W of output is too high? I touched the outside of my headlight assembly after driving with the fogs on for 20 min and it was relatively hot. I never really bothered to check while I had the stock fogs, so I'm not sure if it's normal or not. I'm trying to find out what the output for the stock H1's is.

The "output" they claim is BS. It is nowhere near 130w, its just marketing but its impossible for them to put out that much light, I would even go as far as to say they put out less light than stock becuase of the colored filter
