Anyone have the stock HID bulbs burn out?

Hey guys, i was driving around last night, when i noticed my right headlight was flickering, and then when i would hit bumps it would go out! I had to constantly keep turning them off and on to get it to work, until i think my HID bulb had enough and just died. lol

What is the exact size of our bulbs, and where could i get a set that will plug and play that are 6000k cheap? Ebay? Links??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

2003 - 2005 = D2R
2006 + = D2S

Sorry I can't help you with where to buy the bulbs though. Just last night I replaced my 04 Coupe lamps with the 06 projectors and they came with the bulbs. When you get your bulbs though make sure you have some time to change them, it's definitely not a 15 minute job.

An easier way to put it...

D2Reflector
D2Shielded

If you have a xenon projector, then you need D2S. If you don't have a projector, then you need D2R.

D2C work for both Non-projectors and projector. I have a 2005, and I'm running 6000K D2C

D2Combination

I never liked anything that does everything. The problem with products like that is that they're made for one, does that very well, but sucks at almost everything else...

D2R bulbs are technically the same as a D2S, only it has a black ceramic shield around the bulb to help prevent too much glaring. Although the two bulbs are exactly the same, fitment is just a little different as the bases are notched just a bit differently for the different holders. A D2C bulb seems to be just a D2S bulb (without the needed ceramic shield) that fits both.

Although the reflector is made for an xenon bulb, it's still a reflector and not as focused as a proper xenon projector. Without the proper bulb, it'll be just as bad as having an improper HID kit installed on a halogen reflector producing tons of glare, blinding everyone else on the road... the main reason why aftermarket HID kits are now illegal in many areas. You might not care, but I'm pretty sure everyone else does.

Yes. Search for "G35 Coupe Headlight Removal Guide (3 Simple Steps)" by LCA575. I would put the link in here for you but I don't know how to do that. He includes steps on baking your lights to get them apart so you can just ignore that part but it shows you how to get everything apart. It took me a couple of hours to do the whole thing and it helps to have an extra set of hands around to help to. For me the the worst part of the whole thing was disconnecting the wiring harness from the lamp because it's on the underside of the clip, not at the top where it's easier to get to.

Do i have to pull the bumper though to change out the bulbs??

Or is it reachable from under the hood?

It's doubtful that you can change them from under the hood. Pull the wheel liner first and see what you can get to from there. I don't remember for sure because I was changing the whole thing so I didn't really check what was accessible from the back. It is quicker to just undo the forward part of the liner but you will have much better access if you remove the wheel and the entire liner instead of just the front part. If you can't get to it from the wheel liner then u will have to pull the bumper forward and remove the whole lamp. If you do pull the bumper make sure you undo both sides of the bumper before you try to slide it forward/down. Doing one side at a time will not work. Hope that helps.

Just pull out the plastic in the wheel well... the ones in front of the tires. A flat screwdriver should be good enough to pop the tabs out... I'm not sure if there are any bolts, but if there are, they'll be something like 10mm...

Ok guys, so i go back outside to see how my car was doing. It sits in the garage for most of the week, as i use my 90' civic to commute back and forth.

With that said, i wondered how the burnt HID was doing, i turn on the lights and BAM! It works again, what gives?

Is it loose connections? My car has like 65k used, i just recently bought it.

Does that happen? Like connections come loose? Wheres the ballast?

The ballast is connected to the bottom of the bumper. The wiring and igniter is inside, routed straight to the back of the bulb. Not sure what could have happened. Ask your shop if they did anything to it at all...

I'm willing to bet it was some off brand bulb... buy a quality bulb as most of those other ones are crap. I tend to stick with Phillips, but the other two major players in HID technologies are GE and Osram. I guess PIAA bulbs can't be that bad either, although I have never tried them.

The rest are really just cheap imitations that won't work as great either, that's why they tend to only make 6000k+.
