Light cutoff question

What creates the light cutoff with projectors? I helped a friend install new bulbs tonight but the cut off line was gone. What makes that happen? He upgraded to 6000k but again, no cut off.

There is a metal piece inside the projector AKA "The Shield" which blocks off the bottom half of the projector. Thats how you get the light cutoff. If your cutoff is messed up due to change of bulbs then your problem is not seating the bulb/ignitor (the thing you connect your bulb to) correctly. Just redo it and hopes this helps.

Thanks, much appreciated. So it has nothing to do with the bulb? Soon as I put the other one back in it was percect. I put them both in the say way, or at least I thought. It almost seemed like a puzzle piece where there was really only one way to do it so I'm not sure. I'll try again.

+1 post a pic.

if the cutoff is completely gone, it is likely that there may be something wrong with the bi-xenon function, and the shield may be stuck in the down position.

I didn't bother taking a pic. I don't think it's a prob with the bi-xenon function since as soon as I put the other bulb back in the cut off was right back again.

I'm appreciating the feedback.

describe better what you mean by the cutoff being gone means then. Does the light output just become a blob?

When you put back the stock bulb the cutoff is normal? Then the problem is within the new 6k bulb your friend purchased. Take them both out and observe the base of the stock bulb and the 6k ones (how it connects to the ignitor etc). Also make sure your friend ordered the correct bulb, it's D2S.

This is assuming your cutoff is a blurry glob as redlude said.

That's a decent description, it just kind of fades up. It's kind of like if it was a regular headlight and not projectors.
