Sedan HID Bulb Replacement Options?
Sedan HID Bulb Replacement Options?
I believe my driver side HID bulb is about to burn out on my 03 Sedan (80k miles). It has turned a very dark purple and as about half is bright. I've searched and searched, but didn't find a much regarding the best OEM alternative. I really don't want to go the OEM route and fork over $150+ for a bulb. THe only place I found when searching the forum was mobilehid.com.
What are some other options when looking for something similar to the OEM quality bulb? Also, what is required to replace the bulb? Does it require bumper removal?

phillips make bulbs at a higher K value. Most seem to go with 5000K or 6000K and the pair could be had a under $200 for both bulbs.
You could also pick up some cheap ebay HID bulbs, but who knows how long they will last

I am considering doing both, but the other was replaced a couple of years ago after my wife hit a deer and cracked the housing. I would do it so that the colors match, if anything.

yeah, but from what i know, different brands color rating don't always match with others. I think they are the phillips, but I'm not 100%.

How did you replace the bulb? I have had a new set waiting to be put in but haven't done it due to expecting a several hour projiect.
its not a big deal at all to change them out. look on here for a diy thread im sure there are many. all u havta do is turn ur wheel all the way to one side and work on the opposite side. take the screw out of that plastic piece in the wheel well and that will expose the back house of ur headlight.

You can get a pair of Philips 4300k or 5000k D2R bulbs on ebay for under $100. If you look around you can find them for half that. I have an extra set for emergency use I keep that I got on here off a new Z for $40 shipped.
So I'm lookin at these '06 headlights on e-bay for my '03 coupe and the guy is selling the assembly and the bulbs but not the ballast. Am i going to have to find the right ballast to make these snitches work or will they plug and play?
The philips 5000 color match bulbs seem the best overall bulb. Its a little brighter/whiter than the OEM 4300, and I don't believe you will suffer too much of visible light output.
As far as changing out the bulbs......I did a DIY a little while ago, my car is a coupe, but I think the steps would overlap with the sedans and later models as well....
