HID replacement

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to replace my stock HIDs with something a bit brighter, any recommendations? 6k or 5k, i know nothing about HIDs so any help would be appreciated.

Also, what bulb do I require is it D2R?

You don't have to take off the bumper to change the lights. You just need to pull back the fender lining to get access to the bulbs. It would be a lot easier if you removed your front wheels though.

Also, you're mistaking color for brightness. As redlude97 stated, stock bulbs are the brightest and they are ~4000K. If you were to get a higher temperature (Kelvin) bulb, it's more about changing the color of the light, rather then the actual light output. The high K bulbs actually produce less brightness (lumens).

That being said, I have 5000K Phillips bulbs in my car and it gives a nice whiter/less yellow output without too much of a drop in lumens.

stock temp is 4300k. It has the best output out there. But if you want something a bit whiter, go with 5k. 6k will have a little blue hue and will give you more color, but less output. You just need to upgrade the bulbs if you already have HID's. Best bet is to go with the philips ultinon bulbs. Bit pricey, but are very good.

You will need D2R bulbs. The "R" stands for reflector headlights. D2S are for projector headlights.

fogs/high beams use H4 bulbs. But I do not reccommend putting HID's in the foglights. Causes too much glare to other drivers

The H4 are the ones that have intergrated low and high beams right?

h4 are intergrated for FOG and high beams. the fog projects a much wider and lower pattern compared to normal LOW.

Get 5k if you want pure white.

www.suvlights.com has the Phillips 5K and 6K bulbs. I'm going to install the 5K's when I have an extra $200 laying around.

I just put some new 8ks on my car and they look sexy as hell(Blue with a whitish tint). As far as brightness goes they are FAR brighter then the factory lights I had and I am very glad I switched. When other people say that 4300k or 5k, 6k are brightest realize that 7k 8k and even up to 10k are still really bright and are going to be nicer then your factory lights just with more blue which I personally like better.

You are kidding yourself if you seriously think that 8k is brighter than stock. Your eyes are playing tricks on you, the increased contrast leads you to believe they are brighter than stock, when if fact from actual testing they are substantially dimmer than stock. Like 25+% less REAL output than stock. If you like the look, then that is your choice, but do not go around telling people they are brighter, that is just completely false.
