Remove CHMSL (3rd Brake Light) from trunk?

Remove CHMSL (3rd Brake Light) from trunk?
Has anyone removed the CHMSL (3rd Brake Light) from the trunk instead of removing the entire rear deck? I just got done sound deadening the vehicle, I really don't want to remove the back seats again to get to the rear deck!
After I put it all back I noticed the CHMSL does not work. It could have been not working before I took it out, but i just noticed it now. I know there are two screws that hold it in, but I do not know if you can get them from the trunk or not. This is on a 2004 G35X sedan.
