HID questions

I just have a few questions (probably stupid ones) since I'm pretty new to all of this. Before I got my G35, I had a 4Runner so I wasn't into all this kind of car stuff.

1. I have a 2004 g35 coupe, do all of them come with HIDs stock? How can I check to see if I have them or something else?

2. My headlights are extremely dim it seems like. When I'm driving at night, I can hardly even tell theyre on. Do I just need new bulbs or what? If so, what would be best? I'll try to attach a picture tonight once it gets darker. Thanks for any help guys, its greatly appreciated.

You know whe u first turn on ur headlights. in the intial startup when u first turn ur lights on, you notice the lights a blue in color. If so then u have factory hid's. After they warm up,they turn to white.

I am 99% sure all coupes had HID standard. It was the sedans that varied. One way to tell is to look on the headlight lens and see if you can find "D2R" on the lens. D2R refers to the bulb type, which is an HID bulb.

I would suggest purchasing stock temperature replacement bulbs.

Like was said above, if it says D2R at the bottom of the lamp it is HID. If your lights are dim you have a couple of options. First you could just swap out the bulbs, which is a pain on these cars btw, for something different to see if that fixes your problem. Remember though that the higher the color temperature bulb you choose the more bluish they will become but also the light output decreases as well. Your second choice, and what I did, was to buy the 2006 projector headlamps and swap the whole assembly. They look better on the car and light up the road better as well. You can buy them from one of the site sponsors like Riverside Infiniti. If you go that route buy the lamps with the bulbs because the 06's take D2S instead of D2R and they aren't interchangeable. You can also just swap the ballasts from the 04 to 06 light. Don't buy any headlights off eBay because they are most likely recalled lights and will not aim properly. There are DIY's on here about swapping the headlights and aiming them.

I would go aftermarket. I bought new headlamps that came with bulbs so I don't know the best place to get replacements but from reading on here it seems a lot of people have been happy with Phillips replacement bulbs. You could also get them in a different color temp as well if you want more bluish-white light. Just remember the higher the color temp the lower the light output. I'm also guessing that the Phillips are going to be less expensive than buying OEM bulbs. Since they are just bulbs I wouldn't pay any more for them than I had to.

Phillips ARE OEM. OEM Phillips 85126 bulbs can be had for relatively cheap on ebay and will provide the best performance and longevity, so in the end are the best deal to be had.
