Questions about ballast

My driverside low beam is out for weeks, after tons of fiddling, i am pretty sure it's the ballast that doesnt work. now i am thinking if its ok to get a 30bux ballast from aftermarket conversion kit, or i must use original for my G?
btw, its a 04 coupe
New to the site! looking forward for yall pros' help

technically I think you can buy an aftermarket one (not 100% sure), but honestly, those only last about a year, then they blow out. It's best to stick with the name brands like Matsush-ita, Hella, Mitsubishi, etc.

You can always find a used one on ebay for pretty cheap if that's what you're worried about...plus the OEM ones have the holes already so you can mount it to your headlight

wow really, aftermarket ballast has such shorter lifespan than oem? a supplier offer me one aftermarket ballast for $35 CAD, which will fit my 04 G as he claimed. it has 1yr warranty and i am struggling should i get that one or a new oem ballast for $150
ah btw, how long do the stock bulbs usually last? i am thinking since i am changing the ballast anyway, i might as well throw in a new set of bulbs cuz my G already has 120000km on it with the stock ones.

It's pretty amazing how much shorter of a lifespan the aftermarket ballasts have, but trust me, they don't last. It would be a waste of money to buy an aftermarket ballast only to have to replace it in a year. There is a reason that their warranty is only 1 year long. But anyways, if it were me, I wouldn't buy a new oem ballast, i would buy a used one. I have 126k on my coupe and i've never had a bulb or a ballast go out. So they last a long time, but look at ebay for an oem ballast.

The same goes for bulbs, you pretty much get what you pay for. So if you want to replace the bulbs, replace them with something that is going to last, and that just so happens to be an OEM bulb a lot of the time. So, if you're going to buy a bulb, stick with a Philibs bulb. You can find these on ebay also.

Here is a canadian ebay auction that includes bulbs and ballasts x 2

Hope this helps....oh and welcome to the forum. There is a lot of great information on here that can help you on your g35 journey!

i just bought a ballast on ebay .. its an oem ballast .. it was more than what others were selling it for ...but .. all the other sellers that had ballasts for sale were marked "SOLD AS IS" ..so if it didnt work .. i was **** out of luck ..
whene i received my order .... it had "OK" written on it in marker ..leading me to believe the ballast was checked to make sure it worked ..

fast shipping no problems whatsoever .. installed and worked great ...

heres the link ..

ah btw, if just one of the ballast gone bad, is it good to just change just that ONE to aftermarket or oem without changing the other good one. or i have to change both or else mix and match may mess up the car's electrical?

Could be loose connections or a short somewhere. Then again, some people say that before their ballast goes out completely, it goes on/off when it wants to, so it may just be that you have a bad ballast that came back on but will go off again sometime....i have no idea lol
