Alright guys, since I'm getting a lot of work done to my car along with a custom color change and extra goodies I figured I'd finally crack open the HLs and do work. In spite of all the LED craze I will follow but in an OEM type fashion. I will be placing 9 LEDs in my 06/07 projector clearance strip and use them as day time running LEDs such as the Audi. Clean and simple in my goal.

Problems. I haven't a clue about LEDs and wiring and I will need to dremel 9 holes after being painted. Yes, the HLs will be painted THEN I will tackle this project.

Questions. How hard is this LED project? I have gathered a list of sites that offer pre-made LED flex strips and 45º angled ribbon strips with resistors embedded. I have no idea which ones to pick so if anyone has any ideas or past experiences please share.
Will the paint crack or flake when I dremel the holes or is this a matter of a steady hand?
Some of the LED strips come with 3M double sided tape. Will this hold them in place or should I look for an alternative keeping heat tolerance in mind.

not a difficult task for someone who is decent with their hands. i have used both the flexible strips and the ribbon strips as well as single leds wired in series and i find that the ribbon leds work best. easiest to mount and secure. you can use many different ways to mount them... super glue, epoxy, silicone, 3m, duct tape. i havent had an issue with heat. just use some basic knowledge and youll get this completed trouble free. as for drilling, two words, GO SLOW!

ive used radioshack cheapies and ebay flex strips. havent had any burn out yet that i know of. when searching for the flex strips, i always ordered from the US sellers b/c when they come from taiwan or china, it winds up taking 6-8 weeks

All I can offer is, I would recommend drilling THEN painting.

My timeline doesn't allow that. I'll do my best but until then it looks like paint then drill

I wouldn't rely only on the double side tape on the LED strips. It's not super strong, and you don't want to open up the lights again.

For what you are doing, I would get these:

Then drill the holes carefully (I agree, you should drill and then paint). Then secure those LEDs from the back of the bezel. I use a glue called GOOP, and that works pretty well.

This is how I secured them on my taillights:

Thanks man! I needed that. How do you recommend on wiring these bad boys? Shall I tap into the city lights? Sorry. I'm not familiar with this
