Do the G35s in the US have DRLs (day-time running lights)?
In Canada the high beams come on at a reduced voltage as DRLs.
I changed the bulb to a Sylvania 9003 CB 'Cool Blue' which seems to be a bit brighter and whiter than stock, especially on high with a closer match in colour to the Xenon low beams. Doesn't make much difference to the DRLs though.
On a Miata news group, someone posted that the Cool Blues were as bright as his PIAA SuperWhites at a bargain price.
Has anyone else had experience with the PIAAs, especially the Super Xtremes or the Super Plasmas and are they worth the extra price? Do they last?

Actually, I already have the factory Xenon HIDs on low beam. I wanted the DRLs and the high beam/fogs to better match my low beams. As I said, the highs with the 'Cool Blues' seem to be better than stock. I'm not sure if HIDs as an aftermarket kit would even work as a DRL and so my question re "do the US equipped G35s have DRLs?"

I've been using superwhites on all of my cars and family's cars. Wattage is important with whatever your preference is. Higher means more energy and more chance of it blowing out faster. DRLs are becoming more and more a safety feature in the states with many cars, so the G35 should have it. PIAA's are personally a waste of money in my opinion. First of all, you're talking about DRLs which will be dim no matter what. It just looks more cool when the car is off and you have that blue reflection. Highbeams/foglights, yeah it'll be brighter and more nice. Aftermarket bulbs tend to blow out faster than stock bulbs so why pay close to $100CAD for PIAAs when you get similar if not better $20CAD bulbs. They'll eventually blow out, so why waste the money? =)

 

Yes, I did install the bulbs myself. It took me a while to figure out that you need to remove the front wheels and some of the fender lining from the car to get at the light cluster. Look at about 30 minutes per side. I got the 'Cool Blues' for about $17 CDN each (about 1/3 the price of PIAA), and they're rated the same 60/55 wattage as stock. Still interested though in the experiences of others though re. the higher colour temp PIAAs.

Incidently, all G35s in Canada are sold with HID lights and leather interiors as far as I know.

I doubt that you have to take off the front wheels just to change light bulbs (that would be a pretty stupid design). If I think I know what you are talking about, you just have to turn the wheels to the opposite direction of the side you are working on. If you are changing the driver's side bulbs, then turn the steering wheel all the way to the right giving you the space you need to get past the fender cover and vise versa. It's just like changing the turn signal bulbs of a Civic. I'll be sure to try it out myself when I get the car after everything is run in a bit.
