looking to upgrade my stock oem 4300k bulbs to a nice 6000k bulbs.

been looking around, and found this.


WTF. why is it so expensive for some bulbs. does anyone have these in there ride? is there a difference between none brand names to philips?

i dunno but 200 something for some bulbs is krazy.

 

Buying brand name bulbs to me is like this. You typically get consistent longevity out of the bulb and hue stays fairly constant throughout its lifetime. In the long run buying cheap bulbs consumes more of your time and money, imo.

 

I'm running Morimoto 6K bulbs in my 2nd Gen sedan projectors. Can't speak for the longevity of the bulbs, but I'm pleased with the bulbs and the price is great.

the bulbs are d2S that they sell ..

will those fit as my bulbs take D2R ?? my h.l. arent projectors ..will work ?

 

D2R bulbs are reflector type bulbs

D2S bulbs are projector type bulbs, If you put those in reflector headlights you will have a **** load of glare and pretty much blind not only other drivers but even your self.











As far as Philips. I'm running those bulbs for quite some time now (5 years or so) still perform like Mother fvckers on steroids.

I dunno how long usually other brands last but Philips is the only HID bulb I would buy used, cuz they last quite some time.

also take a look at MTEC's. They're an excellent alternative. They run about $120, are consistent, bright, and have great longevity. I know a few of us have been running them for 3 plus years without issue.

 

did you buy their ballast kit? or just plug the 6k's in? i wanna see how blue a 6k bulb is compared to stock

 

I am using the OEM ballasts from my 1st Gen Sedan. Here is a cell phone pic of my lights. In person its a very bright white with a very tiny hint of blue (not overly blue)

 

is it possible for me to put phillips 6k in my 04? or am i a noob

 

I run 6k Philips D2R. Probably the best bulbs ever, I personally hate the blue looking lights, Philips 6k D2R is all white and like extremely very little blue tint from a distance. Looks very OEM.

 

Hmm I'm at a loss here then. The 6K bulbs look almost stock and in practice have greater light fall off? Why the hell would anyone want them

 

^^ They don't look stock. To me, they are more white and less yellow than the stock 4300K bulbs, with (as Teddy says) just a hint of blue.

If you wanna see some Philips D2R Ultinons in action, swing by my house one day. Or, uh, night.

 

I'll take you up on that offer when I return from the field in a couple of weeks. Maybe lets get some Calgary guys out for beers the same night.

 

Personally.. I went with 5k D2R Philips Colorvision Bulbs over a 6k bulb. Got them on E-Bay for $150. Now those are PURE white.. When you first turn them on and they start to warm, there is the slightest hint of blue. I paired the 5k HID bulbs with 5k Clearance strip LEDs and 5k Sidemarker LEDs from VLED's... It's a beautiful thing.
