DIY: 05/06 Tail light swap

I managed to pick up a set of 05-06 G35 sedan tail lights to swap into my 03.5 sedan . figured i would do a small DIY write up to help those who would like to do this in the future.

its very easy i would say a dificulty level of 2 on a 10 scale. depending on your abilities this install should take between 15 min to 1 hour.

I searched for about 6 months before finding a good set and not paying an arm and leg.

price ranges from $150-$300 used
New MSRP $265 - $198.00 each from infinitiparts.com
http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/part...layCatalogid=0

TOOLS

8mm socket
socket wrench
flat head screw dirver

step 1. open your trunk , if you have a cargo net unhook all 4 hooks and set aside.

step 2. withe the screw driver pop open the 4 plastic anchors and set aside.

also remove the 2 center anchors and 2 outter ones

step 3. pop open the plastic trunk piece by pulling towards you , make sure all anchors have been removed before doing this.

step 4. lightly pull the trunk liner away from the rear of the light ,

once you expose the back of the lights you will see the 4 screws that hold the light locked in place. with the socket wrench just loosen all 4 and then unscrew by hand.

the screw furthest from you will have the harness attached to it just pull it out gently and let it hang until its reassembling time.

once you unscrew all bolts and have removed them , unplug the light and gently push the light out from the inside carfully to break anything. repeat on the other side.

step 5 . once you remove both lights out take advantage and clean the are , you will see alot of crud and or dirt , i used a spray bottle and rag and cleaned it all .

Step 6. once its all cleaned install the new lights

plug in the back and guide the light in place , hand tighten nuts and then with the wrench 1 and a half turn. re attach the harness to the last nut . Plug the light to harness.
repeat on the other side .

step 7. reassemble the trunk pieces . rehook net and close the trunk

enjoy your new lights

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Good stuff and a definite upgrade for the 03-04 sedans. Now if you could just replace your interior that easy..........

Thanks for the DIY. It looks very straightforward except for finding 05/06 tails at a reasonable price!

I would gladly take the coupe seats off your hands if I didn't live on the other side of the country.
